Someone's interested! Help, how do I write my first email?

Someone has shown interest in you and now you must piece together your first introductory email. This is your chance to make a good first impression. But what do you say?

So let's say I meet someone that sparks my interest. We go out on a series of dates and get to know each other. We both seem to get along and I see this relationship having some potential, so I keep seeing my date.
In the meantime, another potential has entered the scene, and he asks me out on a date. This new guy seems OK on paper, but I agree to go out on a date with him to get to know him better.

Yes, they do... it's been proven! According to a report published in the UK (Daily Telegraph), scientists claim that it takes just 8.2 seconds for a man to fall in love with a woman. The tests were conducted by tracking the eye movements of 115 students as they spoke to a bunch of beautiful and not-so-beautiful actors and actresses.
The report found that the longer a man gazed into a woman's eyes, the more interested he was.

Seems simple enough in a social context when you meet someone new, the checklist is straightforward: a human who is not lying about their age or where they live; and a quick scan for a wedding ring. Most of this is easy enough to see but it's not as simple to ask someone to present you with their ID (not to mention a tad extreme). These things become much harder to confirm when meeting online. This intangible meeting method is great in all its private glory, but it's no secret that the online world never sees the light of day, so inevitably, there will be shadows.
