Battle of the Blockbuster Exes

take2.jpg

In the aftermath of the Academy Awards, it seems that once again, we have an Oscar 'first' in the headlines. The first time a female Director has won the Best Director nod. Fantastic! But this is not just any female. Kathryn Bigelow just so happens to be James Cameron's ex-wife. Not only did Cameron create the biggest movie ever made, he was also sitting right behind her as a painfully obvious contender at the event. Did you predict the outcome? Which movie were you backing? Was it one of the two clear runners, or did you have your sights set on a different flick?

Onto more important things, in terms of awkward moments/encounters with the 'ex', have you ever had one of such Titanic proportions? What stories do you have to tell? Have you managed any massive accomplishments for your ex to experience first-hand? Better yet, have you had a victory like this (assuming your ex was your competitor) that might have qualified as being the sweetest revenge? Really, who hasn't secretly wanted the opportunity to rub salt in the wound at least once in their dating life? For those who have, tell us about it!

Actually, both watergirl and roundmidnightm could be right. Individuals make up the voting Academy. In the lead up to voting, studios all lobby very hard for those votes and mount actual campaigns including booking ads just like politicians do. If it walks like a duck ...

Interesting watergirl ..... I didn't have any idea that was the way it is done.

How do you know they are politically motivated? Do you work in the film industry? Do you have insider information? Interesting....
If your comment were the case then James Cameron would have won that Oscar for best picture. After all Avatar has already passed the $200million at the box office.

However the voting system is as follows:
All of the number one votes are counted and if a movie receives 51% of the votes they have a winner and the contest is over. But since that is very unlikely: the new system moves onto step two.

With the help of PricewaterhouseCoopers auditors all ten movies are put into piles and the pile with the least amount of votes is eliminated but (stay with me here) their ballots now move into their number two choice’s film’s stack.

If these new redistributed votes don’t establish a majority winner, the process is repeated with the next-lowest pile eliminated with their number two votes redistributed.

As the process continues, some of the number two votes will be for eliminated movies and so that ballots number 3 (or down as far as needed) vote would be used. This process continues until one of the movies earns a majority vote.

Politically motivated, don't think so mate..

We all know that the Academy Awards are politically -motivated (insofar as who wins) and thus the 'best' pictures and actors are not necessarily the winners.
