Social Golfers

golfers.jpg

Golf is a very social game. It is a great way to get to know someone and can create many laughs in the process. It's also a popular choice for a weekend getaway or a romantic escape. Have you been on a golf date? Have you had a team building golf day for work? Have you rounded up the gang and taken off on a golf trip? Golf makes such a great game for groups. The slow paced methodical nature of the game makes it easy enough to hold a great conversation with a friend or a potential business partner (or other potential partners!).

Many a business deal has had its start on the course. Heard of any partnerships that began on a golf course? Any deals, of any kind initiated at a put-put game? It could be because it's one of the only games that you can drink beer all day and still have a good time playing, whilst maintaining a fair grip on your technique. Try having a beverage while playing a game of football! Unlikely.

I've taken up golf in the last four years and have been pretty lousy at it. Then the last 3 weeks it all came together and I could hit the ball. I was on top of the world. Today..........I couldn't do a thing right!
Oh well.......... There's always the next time I guess. At least Katoomba, in the Blue Mts is a great course to play on and the company is good.

Love to see more/some organised Golf events thru the Melb metro area , even over the winter.
With a nice log fire at the end of it.
Maybe a "Progressive Golf Day" where you change partners every 2nd hole, bit like a speed dating thing.
Either the guys or gals keep backwards to join the next groups, or something?
Any ideas???

I think golf is a great way to spend a day doing something together, if you're both into golf that is.
I haven't experienced the all day beer thing, but I know my golf would suffer horribly if it did.

If there are any women out there who like my profile and think i would like there's and want to play just drop me a line.

Now there is a game of golf where drinking is a must for the whole day, and thats "MUGS DAY". We have a mugs day once a year, and its a great day!! bars on every other hole, bettin holes, holes where your have 2 tee off with a cut down clubs.

Golf would have to be one of the greatest games for socialising and meeting new people. I love jumping in the car and going away for a couple of days to play new courses and meet new people. As far as a golf date goes, i reckon it would be a great way to get 2 know someone, plenty of time for chatting while walking around the course. I'm always n the look out for a mixed foursomes partner!! (now there is another great question for someone to answer for me. Why is a game of golf involving 2 people called a foursome event????)

golf is a great sport invented by those great scots :)
if you want an excuse to get switch off from everything and step back in time then a round of golf is it.....as for social golf with girls?...definately yes but not with your partner.
it's a pretty serious/competitive game and plus who looks after the kids if you both play? :)

I happen to love golf and think it is a fabulous way to wile away a few hours. I've played with women, men, my parents and my children. It's a great walk depending on your stamina (2-7 k's depending on the course) and it's worth it just for the sunshine, fresh air and glimpses of Australian fauna. As to drinking beer, those antics would get you kicked off quick smart. Never heard of the 19th hole?

There are a LOT of men who play golf, but their focus is on the little white ball as yours should be too, though I did have a gorgeous friend who had a habit of wearing skimpy clothes that always drew the eye when she bent over. Once again, socialising is all done at the 19th hole (the bar in the clubrooms).

As to taking a date to play golf, if they've never played before, stick to the driving range. Give them some coaching in how to swing those hips. Happy Gilmore anyone???

hmmmm....

It seems this golf blog doesn't interest the 'gentlemen only' OR the 'ladies forbidden'.

Dead in the water I think, rsvp... what about a more unusual, but interesting sport? ... like crocodile wrestling or cane toad racing?

I didn't think golf was about drinking beer all day. Can't you have a day out without drinking beer all day ?

The golf course near to where I live is always full of ladies learning to play. Apparently, according to them, it's a great place to pick up guys. I don't think many of them are terribly interested in the game though but they look quite nice in all their golf gear. I think it may have been a tad overdone though as there are lots and lots of females. I walk my dog thru sometimes to get to the lake on the other side and she bounds around. The ladies complain, the blokes are really good about it and couldn't care less. Therefore, I rather like the blokey golfers better as squealing ladies on a golf course is not a good look at all and I think some of the guys wish it was still guys only !

Yes, I believe you're right about the origin of the word GOLF.. at least that's the explanation I was given too.
Because it seemed so random, it reminded me of my amazement on learning the origin of the motorbike brand BSA... it's an acronym for British Small Arms, which the company originally manufactured, I'm told.

Golf? It is about walking, isnt it? Walking is fun, so I guess I would love it, too? :0) I am only joking. I have never played real golf, except on a Wii. It requires too much patience that I dont like, so I always missed the holes, even the balls were only a meter away. But I do love walking, so I guess I would love to join in such a real game, too, but be a loser, which I would not mind. :0) How nice it would be just in the middle of all the green. :0) But I guess I would bore all the real enthusiasts out, though. I prefer a faster sport, eg, badminton. And tennis? Oh, too sweaty. :0)

A few years ago, when I lived in Tassie I was invited to a golf weekend in Yarrawonga.
By the way does anyone know where that word GOLF comes from. I was told in means GentlemenOnlyLadiesForbidden. Is that true.

Anyway the invitation came about because, I used to joke with my friends that a golf course was just a very large billiard table.

Had a great weekend, the weather was fine; the golf clubs along the Murray are something to behold. The walk did me the world of good, love walking anyway, and the company was fun too.

Had a fine meal after the game, and I was asked to sum up my opinion of golf after my first day out. Well I have not changed my mind; still have to get those little balls in the hole.Ohhh but its so much grander. Would I do it again, sure would.

Golf has never appealed to me. I've never understood the fascination of hitting small hard balls around pristine grass courses until you tap it into a hole. The buggies look kinda of fun for doing skiddies on the grass though. Why would I want to drink beer all day around a course when I'd have to walk a fair way back to the loos? Romantic? Not sure relieving myself behind a tree or in a bunker would be that attractive to my 'date' if this activity had to be endured. I'm not opposed to other 'outside' activities especially if romance or fun was involved but walking around with silly metal sticks and knobbly white balls just isn't my thing!!
