Weight loss Success Stories

weightloss.jpg

You've seen the show (The Biggest Loser) - people making huge changes in their lifestyle and working extremely hard to shed the weight and regain their energy and confidence. Their success stories are known to many and we watch them through it every step of the way. Since we haven't watched everyone's great successes come to fruition, do you have a great success story that you would love to share?

It may not be your own personal story; it may be the story of someone close to you or even someone in your community who has inspired others to get fit and healthy. What did you or they do and how was it done? Were you (or they) inspired by someone or was it a completely personal decision?

I did a juice detox this weekend and feel revitalised. Ready to concentrate on eating well again after studying and just grabbing anything whilst I had my head in the books and knee high in assignments.

Just a little something to share with you guys.

I am always on the heavy side throughout my teen years until last year. On 2009, I went for a medical check up and hit the scales. I was at 107kg which pretty much scared me. So i decided to cut down on my food portion. When i did check up my cholesterol level is over the higher threshold and my blood pressure is considerably dangerous for a young guy which prompt me to try cutting food portion even more.

In October 2010, I finally got the chance to join the gym and when i hit the scales, i was at 100kg. I started to set personal goals, trying to lose 10kg at a time step by step and changing my diet slightly. Going to the gym 4 times a week. After 3 months of hard work, i am at 89kg. Did a little better than i first thought and this gave me the drive and confidence to go further.

After 7 months of going to the gym and consuming different food i am now at 75kg. My recent health checkup gave me excellent readings. I still eat fast food during lunch and weekends which is not good but i do try to keep the balance in my diet. What i do currently trying to maintain my weight and cut off body fat bit by bit. I hope this give people some sort of inspiration to loss the weight they want.

Ok, no recent activity on this blog, but wanted to share this with people anyway. Posted some tips from my experience in the other blog.

For me, I had always struggled with my weight, I was not really flabby as a child/teenager, but solid, I weighed 90kg before I turned 17 and around 95 by the time I finished school, I have always been pretty active, and able to focus when I put my mind to it, but at that age had other things to focus on. Some family problems arose around the time I started university, and in 2 years, struggling to deal with that problem, my weight ballooned to 145kg, from the 105 it had been(had been weight training at the start of uni) and in a sense it did not really worry me, I was so ashamed of what was going on at home and the effect that it was having on my grades, that being that size was an effective means to keep anyone else from entering my life, Through hard work and determination I joined the yoyo club, by september 2002 got my weight down to 112kg to be best man at my friends wedding, but once that was done i put some back on and then hovered around 120-125 for the next few years, still not concerned to lose any more weight as the problem at home was still ongoing and I was still comfy behind my fat shield.
Needless to say, at some point around 2-3 years ago, my perspective on my family problem and on life in general changed, and with that change I finally looked at my weight and realised that there was no need for me to be carrying that around, and so I began to gradually increase my activity level and cut out foods i didn't really need, I still have my sneaky bad day, but I'll buy a tiny, expensive block of chocolate instead of a cadbury family block, my family and friends are amazed at the change I have gone through, and my outlook on life.

For those of you interested in the numbers, I now tip the scales at 89kg, I have a few kg left to go, for a personal goal, not for any required health benefits, and am enjoying the process of relearning to connect with new people after hiding from the world for so long.

Hi Istj, Whiplash hurts, actually any back injury hurts. At least when my foot hurt the most I could put it up somewhere but you can't sort of ever rest your back that comfortably. i hope it gets better for you soon, it's a bit depressing being in pain all the time. I am lucky being a good sleeper. I can prop myself up in bed and turn on the tele and within half an hour I'm away with the pixies. Even with the boot on my foot I could sprawl out across the bed, sometimes with my foot hanging over the side fast asleep. My daughter used to come in and crack up sometimes and couldn't believe how I had fallen asleep. You can probably see now why I don't live with anyone, they would never put up with me!!! Yep, my birthday party is on Saturday and we are having loads of seafood, mangoes, grapes and everything we used to eat when we lived in Qld. I am so looking forward to it. I like the family thing and we will sit outside around the pool and eat and drink and have lots of laughs. My dog and one of our cats will join in and they will have some special food as well and we have lovely nuts and will share some mango and grapes with Boofer when he comes to visit us later. I like my garden, it's a gentler place of our environment and a nice place to be. We only have a small block as we live close to the city but it has some nice trees and plants on it and it's extremely green. I do hope your back feels a lot better soon, backache is horrible as you can't seem to isolate it somehow. My foot still hurts a lot because of the tendon damage but I am getting around now and thank goodness can drive my car. I have a parking spot at work which is great and can hobble in and out the office but must admit at the end of the day I am very ready to go home, feeling a bit tired. Never mind.

Hot here today, Perth...and I have bought chocolate and am telling myself it's okay as it is 70%...I sympathise re your injury...I got whiplash in November and have had lots of movements impaired too...a real pain...think I will blame that for my gain...but I must be honest it happened before then...anyway I am walking the dog more and am eating extremely well...'cept for chocolate...I'm almost looking forward to going back to work where you can't eat all day long:)) Is your party this weekend? Sounds brilliant.

Posted by: istj54 at January 20, 2009 4:15 PM

Gosh Willow, 44, that is really hot. It was 42 here but I can't say I mind the heat too much. This sounds silly I know but I always find the air con in the office is so darned low that I get too cold. The boot is off and it has done the trick. Still limping as there was a bit of tendon damage as well but I think all will be well. I had the absolute horrors of lasting damage so did a lot of foot movement with boot on. Specialist is very pleased. My birthday is on Friday so will take a big cake into work and then we are having a big family thing at home on Saturday so looking forward to it. I am going to get loads of fresh seafood and lovely white wine. Eldest daughter is going to bring an ice cream cake and I will get pressies, yay !!!!! Youngest daughter took me to Gold Class today with all the trimmings to see Benjamin Button - excellent film and thoroughly enjoyed it, it was such a good day and such a special gift as she knew I would like to see the film so we did it in style. I hope your poor horses had shade today, ours used to feel it when we lived in Qld, 44 is really a bit too hot to be outside.

Posted by: iaminperth at January 19, 2009 8:32 PM

Perth, glad to hear your boot is off. Nothing worse in this heat - esp when you aren't allowed in the water. It was 44 here yesterday.
What day is your birthday?

Too hot here in Gold Coast, I felt like I was in the Philippines, humid, I sweat a lots, good for losing weight and released those toxic waste form body sweat. Losing weight is easy, work hard and avoid unhealthy junk foods, have medium portion of foods intake and light exercise. I'm 5''7, weight only 55 kilos size 10, that's my weight loss tip success. I got very healthy body & mind, No medical illness history. Thanks God. :)

Iaminperth...I think our lives are very similar...wonderful enjoyment of family, friends and fulfilling work...I miss my son already...probably the noise factor...no loud cricket or games...I get to watch whatever I want now...and that, as great as it is, can be a bit sad too...I can now dance around, or simply float around, in my undies...I do love that and used to do it with the children too...until one day when my son was about ten/eleven...he obviously hadn't noticed I did it till then...anyways I saw him looking at me aghast...I said, "you'll be old and fat one day."...to which he quickly replied..."I'll never be that fat...."...oh, dear!!!!and to think that I was probably at least 8 Ks lighter then...hope he is not too shocked if he now pops around unexpected...ha, ha...could wound him for life:))

It's obvious you have a great realtionship with your kids and how special is that. I too have a great realtionship with mine and their partners, we all seem to be able to mix and mingle and also be individuals, all different but bound together. It love it, absolutely love it, take pride in it and take pride in them. It doesn't take a look of work, just acceptance of all our differences and my lot are very very different. Back to the topic, I am going to be doing water aerobics to try to get exercise of some sort going again. My boot came off today but still can't walk far without a lot of pain, so the water is the trick. I love my food but I can eat sensibly but need to jump in the pool and work out. hope this will do some good as I hate being overweight and my clothes don'[t fit well at all. Birthday coming up and I am going to enjoy it, with lots of seafood and champagne and a great big ice cream cake. Everyone will be here at our house and we are going to have a ball, so looking forward to it. We are even going to have special food for our pets so they can join in as well. We still have Boofer visiting each evening and he has his special plate. What more could you ask for but a great family and children who love you and their partners as well. I have to wonder whether it would be worth trying to find anyone to fit into this situation, it would need to be someone extremely special I can tell you.

...make that waist...TMI if the other:))

Posted by: istj54 at January 12, 2009 10:33 PM

...I do believe that I can see a small indentation where, I am fairly positive, my waste used to be...am still trying to follow "low" carb...not "no" carb...eating...won't call it a diet as I have a robust apetite and can't cut back...been walking the dog more too...he is happy:))

Posted by: istj54 at January 12, 2009 12:17 PM

...and still no success...thinking it is the wine now since all chocolates are finished...perth, I do have a great relationship with my children...many ups and downs along the way...son is moving out this week and that makes me a bit sad but will be new beginnings for both of us...ERAL...thanks for compliment but you're a new eral aren't you?...and L&T...I did loook pretty hot as I had on a winter outfit and it got quite warm on Christmas Day:)) HNY to all of you...it's here for us all to enjoy.

I have found the easiest way to lose weight is to eat all fresh food, i.e., no canned, no processed, no pre packed. Cut down big time on red meat and certainly no fried food. At the supermarket if it's canned or bottled, don't buy it, it has to be fresh. Work out some magic salad dressings and also sauces for fish and chicken for yourself using only fresh ingredients, fruits, mustard, vinegar etc. Snack only on fresh stuff, nuts, veges, fruit. It's not hard once you get used to it and takes the guesswork out of what to buy and what to eat - If it's not fresh you can't have it.

You do not look like an old lady at all, your son sounds fabulous and must be very secure to say that to you. I like my red wine too much, always my down fall but once I get into some serious exercise again I will be alright as i actually like seafood and salad and all that stuff and I have worked out some wonderful dressings. My thing is that I experiment with dressings for food as I like taste and lots of it so I find I can eat a fair amount and put a home made no oil dressing over the top. I use heaps of lemons, oranges, nuts, peel, white balsamic, balsamic glaze, really anything and it doesn't add any calories but loads of taste. Just mix up anything you feel like, add mustard if you like it, garlic, anything, fruit with fix and meats and heaps of salad. Works for me and tastes a bit yum as well. Jeans and t-shirt with loose blouse over the top is working at the moment, although the moon boot is a drag and another 3 weeks to go, oh well.

*bummer*....

I got a set of 'talking scales' for Christmas, so I thought I'd give them a try this morning. Miserable machine hollered out "One at a time... please!" when I hopped on.

Mmmmm... going to make a nice boat anchor these scales are.... :)

istj, i think .. the more of you the better and you actually look great for your age. The son meant 'like MY old lady' ;-)

I trained my brother to lose 35 kilos after losing some weight myself. It took just over a year and he has kept the weight off for over 3 years now. So i'd consider that pretty successful. It was done completely with weight training, barely any cardio (for all you treadmill fanatics) and a healthy diet of course. Once you know the basics it's really blatantly obvious what you should be doing to stay healthy. Stay away from manufactured food and drinks that aren't water and you're set. Have several smaller meals a day instead of big ones. Make a decision to be healthy and stick to it, that's all there is to it. Credit goes to Rocky for the inspiration.. =)

Hello thunder thighs...What would you have done if said son had volunteered "hey mum, you look HOT"?
The real 'success stories' are the people who manage their weight and stay at a healthy level. Observing and emulating them rather than getting caught up in a cycle of undesirable fad physiological/emotional acrobatics seems sensible. So does rejecting just about every food that is processed so that it appears white..
Cheers Marcus

...........and I thought I was doing well, until Christmas and NYE undid the good work!
Back to a diet of Japanese style food for me.

It's a bit sad to see that no-one here has a weight loss success story to tell...I've been waiting all week to have one to tell...but it remains ellusive as I continue to wade through the chocolates and wine...obviously my seafood diet is not working yet...chockies are all gone now and I am back on a low-carb regime so maybe in a week I will be smiling...I had one of those terrible epiphanies on Christmas day when I left dressing till the last moment...needless to say I was greatly delayed as I threw clothes all over my bedroom searching for something that would, at the very least, do up...finally I had to grab the old-faithful work skirt...asked my son how I looked he just shrugged and said, "like an old lady"...right...had a "great" day after that so back on the low carb regime till I at least look like just an "older" lady...I will keep keep you all informed of my successes...so if you don't hear...:))))
