Tried and Tested Weight Loss Tips

triedandtesteddiets.jpg

Sharing success stories is one thing. Sharing the secrets to success is another. If you're a good sport and you've found a genius way to lose weight - we want to hear about it! Sure, some of your tried methods probably fall short of brilliant, but don't you think others should know about what NOT to do, just as much as they should know what is best to do?

What are your sure-fire do's and some of your regretted don'ts? Maybe you've seen someone else try something that was amazing (whilst being sensible) or you watched someone painfully go through a disastrous program that left caused more loss than just their weight? I'm sure your knowledge on this topic will be well received, particularly over the holiday season!

Yes can't wait to get back the feeling of being trim taunt and terrific after sitting around with my head in text books for the past few years. There is nothing like getting around with a bounce in your step.

Missbetti yep me! LOL

DIET & WEIGHTLOSS are poisonous words to the image conscious

Focus on fitness & health via MORE OUTPUT LESS INPUT... and the buzz it gives you when you click over into the burn for that feel good vibe :-)

Connect with it makes you FEEL rather than focussing on what you look like x

This may sound silly but is there anyone on here that just wants to get fit and doesn't actually care about weightloss? I've just joined gym after many years and am loving getting fitter and healthier (and not worrying about weightloss) and I hope there are a few others out there like me :)

I tried to post this before so if it comes out twice I'm sorry. I recently read a book called "The Gabriel Method". It is a little different to regular weight loss books because this involves NO DIETING!!! Yes, that's right, it is not a diet. The book written by a guy that was HUGE and is now HOT talks about the reasons why you are fat. Fat people have what he calls "the fat programs" turned on. Thin people have "the thin programs" turned on. The idea is to get your body to want to be thin. Then the weight just falls off. It involves looking at the reasons why you are fat. Being fat is more than just calories in and out. There are many reasons why us bigger people are big. The book helps you deal with them so you can get thin because your body wants to be thin. The book comes with a CD you can download. It looks at the mind/body connection in weight loss. After listening to the CD which uses meditation and visualisation I was way less hungry and thinking about food less. I have a picture of a person (minus their head) who has a body I would love. I look at the picture and visualise it is me. You don't weigh yourself every day/week on the method, only about once every 3 months. I will log in May and tell you how it is going for me. In the meantime you can google "The Gabriel Method" and read about it yourselves.Good luck. Cheers. Jeanette

My tried and tested "thing" is eating! I know it sounds stupid, but it worked for me. I wasn't eating enough. I now eat 3 meals a day - doesn't matter what - and I have lost around 25 kg. Give or take after all it is Christmas. I don't restrict anything. If I want a soda i have a soda. My problem wasn't overeating but not eating enough. Lots of little small meals. Mainly veges with a little meat. mostly fresh but cooked sometimes.

Posted by: intozoey at December 29, 2010 3:54 AM

I have struggled with my weight all of my life, I had always been around the 90kg mark, in 2007 I hit 95kg and made a major overhaul of my life. I have lost alot of fat and have almost lost it all...almost lol still going, I'll just share what I've learnt over the last 3 years.
People should not be scared of carbs, that's a 80's stereotype that hasn't shaken off too well...kinda like when people said all fats are bad back in the early 90's.
I believe people that are serious about fat loss AND weight loss (there is a big difference) should study and understand simple carbs, complex carbs, proteins and essential fats in order to gauge a better understanding of how each works and interacts with one another. It's not rocket science and will help you with your choices of meals as well as add variety to your pallette whilst losing fat through a good mixed excercise regime.
one4picasso had alot of great tips below but I'm not too sure about 100% Protien days? eggs, meat, almonds and everything else mentioned there has carbs in it? good or essential fats don't just come from olive oil, you can derrive it from fish oil tabs and flaxseed oil, almonds etc just research.
I'd swap black tea'n'coffee (very low amounts of caffeine) with green tea and caffeine anhydrous (pure synthesized caffeine). Most weightloss and "fat blasting" nonsense tablets contain these 2
elements as main ingredients. They try to mimmick hunger suppression medications (orlistat, post pregnancy meds etc) whilst boosting your metabolism which isn't cool, if your bodys hungry and your suppressing the hunger you can easily have a rebound later in the day or go into a catabolic state where your body will choose muscle instead of fat as an energy source.
Men and Women shouldnt shy away from the weights...light or heavy, the more muscle you have the more fat you will burn!
Truly research all fat fighting supplements, don't let the guy or girls with good genes and hot bodies in the vitamin stores con you into buying something they don't even understand! U.S products like hydroxy cut & xantrax etc have their formulas remade for australia, they replace banned substances therefore rendering the product of little benefit.
Don't get into chinese "slimming teas", they are just full of diuretic herbs which will drain water retention from your body temporarily...NOT FAT! diuretics are only good for cleansing your liver when needed and for models or body competition shows example...hot dude goes to the beach for a photo shoot, he'll usually have a lot of diuretics before the shoot to zap water out the body and reveal a more "cut or ripped" look...mostly to show definition of the abs and arms.
Take up an interest in boxing or kickboxing...you don't have to be intimidated at a boxing gym (their not all full of thugs lol), most normal gyms have boxing/kickboxing classes however having done both I can truly say you'll get much better results at the real gym...look at boxers and kickboxers in comparrison to most other sporting bodies, they tend to have a perfect ratio of cardio, strength, muscle and fat right? Got a little cash? GO TO A MUAY THAI BOXING CAMP IN THAILAND!!! YOU WILL SHRED FAT!!!!!!
Also accept your genes! we are all not created equally and shouldn't try to aim for a body like a friend or media personality...be inspired but try to accept the fact that your gene's will control where fat will be burnt from, don't be discouraged because your arms are great but you legs are still fat, determination and time will see it through...plus with little hints and help from people in the know will boost your efforts.
Spot Reduction is FALSE...doing leg excercises everyday etc may give you strength and muscle but the fat there will only go when your body wants it to..just keep striving.
As a last resort for the larger folk, sometimes after a massive change you can be left with saggy skin, super stubborn fat etc that just won't go or improve. Lipid dissolve injections are becoming more popular, cheaper and available in Australia. It's a fast 2hour process, simple injections with real results, plus tightening of the skin unlike liposuction which WILL leave sagging skin and will require minimal plastic surgery post operation.
Even anabolic steroids will never truly benefit you unless you have good genes and true knowledge of human bio-chemistry. 85% of steroid users around the world are everyday men in their 30's who felt that by improving their bodies they would be able to achieve more in their careers, acceptance by the general public and most importantly acceptance from the opposite sex. Steroids are VERY easy to obtain in Australia now...stay away from them and the people that sell them unless you truly understand what your doing and trust your source...talk to your doctor...you may be eligible for hormone treatment (a.k.a anabolic steroids) if hormonal imbalence is stopping your weight loss efforts.
Anyone on a high protein low/no carb regime best have their liver values checked via blood test. There is only so much protein your body can use, the rest is usually dumped through nitrogen waste (urine) or can be converted to fat, all in all your liver breaks it down with a million other things...don't strain your liver, you only have 1!
lastly...NEVER GIVE UP ON LIFE!

I thought I would join the chat as I have a tummy problem.. Type 2 Diabetes means I need Carbs and as for peanuts I am only allowed 6. My son eats lamb grillers whilst I look at my cutlets and feel cheated, but I need 5/6 small meals a day. I told my doctor i wouldnt give up raw sugar or my milk in teas etc so I cut down instead. I research the net for recipes but I can eat normally just in moderation and eat more veges than meat or Pasta. I am going to enjoy summer with salads and focus on pork and chicken as they have the lowest count in Cals. I have a cardio twister which leaves me puffed but its fun. I dont call it a diet but lifestyle change :-)

Posted by: amazonb at October 14, 2010 6:41 PM

I found that the easiest way to not only lose weight, but to make the lifestyle change to keep the weight off was to keep it simple. To change your weight (whether you be gaining weight or static) is to reduce your kilojoule intake relative to your activity level, and it doesn't need to be a drastic change, you are better off doing it gradually over time as your results dictate the need to.

The best way is to look at your current habits, if you are not very active make small changes, go for a brief walk, you'll eventually build up to more, do a short workout. My initial strength training sessions were 20 minutes, 3 times a week, plus some walking and a few rounds of golf, 18 months after starting to take a better interest in my health, my strength sessions are 1hr+, I walk 8km most days, and on my non workout days I cycle about 40km. When I started I barely had the energy for anything, so there is no need to dive headfirst into a biggest loser style program, work your way up as your gains begin to slow.

The other half of the equation is diet, If you're like I was then you're probably eating a lot of food that you don't need, and may not even recognise you are eating. If you struggle to remember what you've eaten write it down, and the same as the exercise plan, theres no need to make drastic changes, if you eat junk food every day, and lets face it, many people do, then start by making sure you have 2 junk food free days a week, then as your gains start to slow, make sure every second day is junk food free, to the point where eventually you'll only have junk food once or twice a week. If you have really good self control and can eat only a little portion every day, then do that instead, but if like me, you can't trust yourself with a block of chocolate in the house, best to avoid buying it unless on your special days.
Eventually you will need to tailor your diet to meet the nutrient needs of your exercise program, but not right away.

Hopefully this may help some of you.

A girlfriend shared this site with me, and I have only used it for a week but am finding that an hour on a sunday is worth it for both my budget and to help me stay on track. It is free Dont think you have to buy anything to lose weight, a pedometer is all you need and even then get a cheap one..lol It is amazing how easily they break.

one4picasso,

I did a similar programme called body for life. This combined the sort of eating plan you are talking about with fatigue weight training. If you have never done fatigue weight training before, it hurts.

I used this programme when I went from 110 to 95 and couldn't lose any more weight on my own. After 12 weeks I went from 95 to 80. I strongly recommend this programme even though it is not cheap. Check with your local gym.

On a negative note on losing weight. Anyone got any ideas for lose skin?

Posted by: anordinaryfellow at September 13, 2009 6:52 PM

Great advice picasso...I have now lost nine pounds since January on a very similar regime...it is pretty easy to follow as you don't get hungry...just got about seven to go till I can reclaim "slim" on my profile...I just love that 80/20 philosophy 'cos when you do your 20 you don't throw everything away...just cruise back to the 80:))

This a FAT LOSS (not weight loss ) PROGRAM that WORKS
Its not a diet, diets don't work. I lost 16kg in 7 months, to 74kg, 2 years later I’m 76kg.Can control weight at will now.

It will only work if you have metaphorically drawn the line in the sand-NO MORE fat!

BEFORE YOU START MAKE GOALS, WHAT WEIGHT? HOW SHOULD YOU LOOK? WAIST SIZE, ARMS? SIX PACK? HOW FIT?

NOW CHUNK YOUR GOALS,ie lose 1kg by April 1 etc until you now have an achievable task and an realistic timeframe-TAKE IT STEP BY STEP, INCH BY INCH, K BY K, ( OR POUND BY POUND). WRITE THEM UP ON A VISION BOARD ALONG WITH PICS OF HOW YOU WANT TO BE , REFER TO IT DAILY.
Take before photos. Note weight daily in diary. Weigh in naked at the start- measure waist thighs hips arms etc.) Donít worry about weight on a daily basis but weekly it should go down.) Be patient but committed.

FOOD RULES - at all times:- NO sugar or sweets or cake or biscuits- NO bread- NO breakfast cereal- NO Margarine or Butter- NO trans fats NO processed Carbohydrates-from packets

Don't keep bad or tempting food in pantry or fridge. CLEAR IT OUT BEFORE YOU START DAY 1
WHAT TYPE OF FOOD TO EAT AND IN WHAT WAY ( huge tip ):-

You have to be good for 80% of the time per week and 20% bad. Yes you can eat whatever you want in moderation and drink alcohol- but only 20% of the time
BUT HEREí
'S THE SECRET;- THE 80% has to be in a block of days not time in a day. ( I pick Friday and Saturday to eat and drink what I please- the rest of the week is discipline)
Food comes in three categories CARBS, PROTEIN & FAT
Bodies run mainly on carbs like a car needs fuel. Try eating 100% protein for as many days as you can, it tricks the body to use up reserves from the fat cells.
This program is about minimising carb intake and varying your food on regular basis.
Most people eat the same sort of things every day. The body relies on this and puts away reserves into fat cells whether you like it or know about it or not

100% PROTEIN DAY means Only eggs, meat (palm sized portion), fish, raw almonds, tofu, light cheese-cottage, pittas and sunflower seeds. Drink Plenty Plenty Plenty Plenty water. Can have black tea, coffee,
CARBS are Vegetables, fruit, anything in a packet, alcohol etc.
FATS
Only have small amounts of virgin olive oil-all else is bad.

DAILY:-
On waking-one cup strong black coffee-20mins+ of cardio (fast walk
and some jogging) before you eat breakfast-speeds metabolism.

Now you eat breakfast:- Normal Day -fruit salad or 100% PROTEIN DAY 2xboiled eggs with spice
-cayenne pepper, chilli-you got it.

Lunch& Dinner:- Whatever ( salad/meat/ fruit) or PROTEIN DAY FOOD
Dinner early, wait 1-2 hours then train/gym/cardio.
Snack on almonds , or fruit.- but no fruit on PROTEIN DAYS
Add spices to all meals for increased metabolism- always tumeric ( blood sugar controller) and sweet craving inhibiter.
I have more if anyones interested.

i joined an organisation which specialises in nutritien , weight management, well being. Our food is not what it used to be 50 years ago as our soils are so depleted of natural nutrients, trace elements, minerals. Nor is our water what it should be with very little or no minerals at all. When I'm on a weight management system I feel so good that eating food sometimes seems senseless as I know I'm only eating for bulk not value. Not only does this system provide well balanced vitamins, minerals, trace elements it also detoxifies .
Chemicals in our food chain have increased so much over the past 50 years that they now our -weigh the nutritional content. Our water is highly processed, we should be drinking water which comes from deep underground or running creeks/rivers, where natural deposits can enrich the water with nutrients but insterad what we get out of our taps is processed, highly chlorinated and flouridated. (See 'What the Bleep do we Know') Flouride is an aluminium by-product and we're forced to drink it. Why doesn't the governemnt enrich our water to imitate natural spring water? Our kidneys, teeth, bones would be much healthier with less risk. Our bodies cannot deal with the mulitude of 'exceptable levels' we injest.
Our bodies are 70% water.
How often does the medical profession test specifiacally, the quality of water in our bodies
We are in this day, an essence of what we should be as far as our well being is concerned due to massive destruction and depletion of our natural resources, farming soils & water.
I have experieinced, when I am taking the high quality supplements, my body requires I am actually calmer, concentration level improves, weight is where I want to be, am happier and better able to cope with problems. I begin to feel beautiful again.
I'm so glad I have found a product which is completely nutiritional plus completely chemical free.
I realise I've left myself open to all the professionals out there who may present another point of view but there's nothing anyone can say which will convince me our food and water are top quality anymore.
What I'm saying is there is hope out there if you do some research.
I'll go back to my glass of wine now.

Just eat only fresh. Cut out anything, absolutely anything processed or canned, . zilch. When you are shopping if it isn't fresh don't buy it. For lunch in the middle of the day if you are working purchase fresh, nothing processed and definitely nothing out of a packet. Nothing with processed flours. Have nuts, fruit and veges for the nibbles in between meals. Make the meals nice and big, use lemons, oranges, anything balsamic vinegar extra virgin olive oil for flavouring. Curry powder and raisins in pumpkin is lovely, add some fresh green beans, big piece of fish or chicken, yummy meal. Just only eat fresh, you don't need a list or have to weigh anything, just don't buy it. Works for me. When I am really strict, which for me means cutting out alcohol it works like crazy and I can lost 1kg per week fairly easily. Oh, and drink water of course but don't drown yourself !

I read on the Internet that 'fidgeting' can seriously take off weight (over a period of time).

Posted by: diditforlove at January 26, 2009 11:29 AM

The effects of the ECA stack in weight loss are primarily due to the ephedrine component. Ephedrine acts both as a beta agonist and stimulates the release of norepinephrine. Increased circulating norepinephrine in the body then acts on white adipose tissue by increasing cAMP levels. This causes a thermogenic effect, raising body temperature and increasing the user's metabolism in conjunction with the rest of the stack.[citation needed]

However, the body's negative feedback system then activates to normalize the metabolism. This is done via the production of phosphodiesterase inside the cells, and prostaglandins outside the cell, which both lower cAMP levels within the cell.

Caffeine inhibits the production of phosphodiesterase inside the cell and therefore slows cAMP breakdown. It also binds with and competitively inhibits adenosine receptors in the brain, triggering the release of epinephrine and increasing cAMP levels further.

Aspirin inhibits prostaglandin production outside of the cells, which, in conjunction with caffeine, greatly prolongs the thermogenic effects and increased metabolism by sustaining elevated cAMP levels.[citation needed]

Ephedrine also has an anorectic, or appetite-suppressing, effect. However, these effects only last for about two weeks if the stack is not cycled, as the body becomes tolerant to ephedrine to some degree.[citation needed] It is estimated that 60%75% of the weight loss from using the ECA stack comes from the anorectic effect, and the remainder from thermogenesis.[citation needed]

The final component in weight loss of the ECA stack is that of a simple stimulant; the higher epinephrine and norepinephrine levels result in increased aerobic exercise performance and less fatigue.

Posted by: eccehomoergo at January 19, 2009 1:58 AM

Thermogenics are dietary supplements used to stimulate the body's burning of fat. Thermogenics increase the metabolism of the body's adipose tissue, generating heat (thermogenesis).

Common thermogenic substances are ephedra, bitter orange, capsicum, ginger and caffeine.

The ECA Stack (ephedrine, caffeine, aspirin) is the most well known thermogenic formulation, popular among bodybuilders as a means to achieve low body fat levels.

Themogenics is also the practice of deliberately exposing the body to very cold temperatures to raise Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). This is usually done by soaking the body in icy cold water until a person can not tolerate it any longer almost to the point of inducing hypothermia. This then causes a release of thyroxine from the thyroid gland by means of the sympathetic nervous system thus raising BMR resulting in an overall increase in body temperature. This method of thermogenics combined with the ECA Stack mentioned above will produce a very powerful thermogenic response.

Worst thing you can do hun the body begins to go into cave man mode and store fat as it thinks its not getting a feed anytime soon. It is a common misconception about weight loss, the French dont believe in diets or much exercise, but have a wonderful attitude to food and active lifestyles..Its all in moderaton and often can be also related to the functioning of the organs and digestive system. My grandmother taught me to drink apple cider vinegar first thing in the morning in warm water, have done so for years now. Cleans the body out of toxins from the day before and sets the digestive system up for the day.. Lemon juice in warm water is another one first thing i the morning..Just another little tip which might help..

I am currently losing weight and have a few tips.
First, when you think of putting something in your mouth ask yourself could I be having a cuppa or a drink of water instead. Sometimes you tell yourself you are hungry but you are just thirsty.
If you have a binge day or just an off day, forgive yourself and get back on track.
Take each day ONE AT A TIME.
I use motivators so when I reach short term goals (eg lose what I put on Xmas week) I reward myself with non-food items.
There is no quick fix and you do have to go without. As I have lost two thirds of my original goal, I find I can exercise, even go for the bike ride that I had promised myself I would be able to do. Good luck everyone!

I agree absolutely with you iaminperth about sitting down all day.

I am also chained to a desk most of the day and it totally saps my energy to the point that I can't even be bothered to "dance around my home in my bra and panties."...my usual form of exercise.

Hmm i presume dbpc you are being funny or thats not exactly a handy hint comment fore people looking for constructive comments and help??

I think eating sensibly is a learned concept and would recommend to anyone to go to weight watchers or a nutritionist. Sometimes you feel like you are eating more to lose weight..its all about having the right proportions.

And yes..i am still learning :)

There have been many crazy diets around, but I guess they all rest on the premise of less in - more energy out.
One such diet is the 'Duna Diet' based on the premise that lack of sleep can affect our hormones - prob. the Circadian Rhythm thing ie 24 Hour body clock.
It is believed that if our hormones are out of wack, all sorts of things can happen, like mistaking fatigue for hunger.

Advantages of this Diet:
We are all sleep- deprived anyway, and this would help our general health.
More sex means more exercise - ie if you have a partner.
You (presumably) can't eat in bed.
The night-time post 6.30pm snack is the most dangerous of all for putting on weight (many of the most religious daytime dieter relents when faced with alone time at night, and heads for chocs etc.) So the earlier to bed the better.
One of the 'Beach Boys' - Brian Wilson - spent 3 years in bed, but he put on weight, due to him combining it with eating.

I have lost all your info but would you agree that the best tip to lose some weight is to stop eating ?

Posted by: deepbluepc at January 8, 2009 2:48 PM

... buy lo-carb bread and make sure you add healthy fillings to your sambos and you should be okay...country grain and organic rye by country life is such a bread...put your burgers in it too...and I agree it is hard to keep on track when you are just feeding yourself:)

i'm developing a bit of a pot belly after giving up smoking 12 months ago, i was underfed at about 72kgs, now i'm 84 - i'm eating heaps more - and healthier but i get lazy and i work shift so I eat whatevers easy often- sambos, burgers, pies etc - its hard to eat fresh & lowcarbs when you're on your own. any suggestions??

:0) Happy Birthday in advance! And why not spoil us a little? :0) I do once a while (sometimes half a packet of chips or chocolate), and just do more exercise and fast myself right after the spoiling day. :0)

I know the feeling handyman, boredom is a killer. There are two tables where I work pushed together piled with charity chocolates, jelly lollies and snack packs. Some are meusli type bars but when you look at the energy level on the packet it is huge, meaning masses of calories of kj's whichever way you look at it. Also sitting for a major part of the day doesn't help either and apart from putting on weight makes you feel heavier irrespective at the end of the day. I am always glad when I am out of the office and moving around because if I am stuck in there all day I am tired out at the end of it and don't feel like doing much at all. When my foot gets better I am going to start to walk part way home as I am sure all this sitting stuff is no good for circulation and health.

Posted by: iaminperth at January 4, 2009 11:36 AM

I am going to have my birthday soon and I get to choose all the food for my party. Out goes the diet for a day, yay !!! We are going to have loads of fresh seafood, yum, mangoes, grapes, fresh sliced leg ham with fresh pineapple, potato salad with proscuitto, coleslaw with more pineapple, garlic bread with basil and garlic and lashings of cheese and finally a huge toblerone cheesecake with lots of candles, thousands actually. All this will be washed down with copious amounts of white wine and champers. My guests hopefully will lock the door behind them when the last one leaves after partying the night away. Oh well, if you have to go, you may as well go happily !

Posted by: iaminperth at January 4, 2009 11:06 AM

For me, weight gain is caused by one or all of the following three things, boredom, stress and lack of exercise. Like most of us I imagine, work is busy, often stressful and occupies a great deal of time, even when not in the office.

If there is no activity outside of work, working in an office, sat for long periods at a desk can in itself contribute to weight gain.

Before moving to Perth, I lived in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, walked or hopped on & off the trams to get to most places. Perth however isnt as well catered for and as such a car is often required to get around. Slowly the kilos creep on.

Then there is the boredom. Single, living alone, with only a few friends locally, I have periods of boredom, something to relieve that is a quick snack and chocolate has been my achilles heal. More kilos creeping on.

Working late or weekends at the office, peckish and oh look, theres a charity box full or choc & chips. Charity, yep great for the children who receive the money (hopefully) but not for us who are consuming all those tasty calories, slowly killing ourselves through an act of kindness and generosity. OK, who am I kidding.

Finally I reached a point where I was feeling uncomfortable with my weight and our boss, being the person he is, organised his personal trainer to come in, weigh us all, measure our metabolic rate and devise individual diet and exercise plans.

No Atkins, no tablets, nothing radical or extreme, just sensible eating. A healthy breakfast, snack mid morning, sandwich for lunch, another snack in the afternoon and a decent meal at a reasonable time in the evening.

Exercise wise, a 30 – 60 minute fast paced walk preferably in the morning was all that was required and despite the fact that I didnt do the morning walk anywhere near as often as I should have, I was loosing almost a kilo a week. Has I gotten off my arse at 5:30am and gone for a walk, I could have doubled or trebled that.

Anyway, things were going great until Christmas arrived, whoops. Well these things happen and on a positive note, I dont think Ive actually put on more than a kilo or two, so still lighter than when I started. I also know now that with very little effort on my part, I can loose weight easily.

I will also mention that I dont miss what Ive cut out of the diet, white bread, red meat and snacks…ok except maybe for bacon and strong cheese. Bread (seeded or wholemeal) is ok, cereals in the morning or the occasionally boiled or poached egg for breakfast is vitally important, more fish, more veggies, fruit and plenty of water. Rice cakes and low fat cheese slices make up my snacks now and I really like them. Weird right?

It doesnt have to be painful, dull, tedious or costly. A few simple changes to your diet, setting your daily intake to just below your metabolic rate or taking up some exercise to increase you metabolism above your consumption and cutting out the crap can make all the difference.

:0) I think just doing more exercises, less bread/rice but more vege, fruit, fish and lean meat would do the trick. :0) I rarely eat bread/rice, but heaps of vege, juice, soymilk, some fish and lean meat. And avoid fatty fast food. No butter, thats for sure! And I rarely eat cakes, :0) not even sweet cakes. :0) Very rarely eat biscuits, either. Fast walking (45 minutes twice daily for losing weight, and then 45min once daily to keep it) is very good and easy and cost free, or a gym bike at home (good when watching TV :0)). Or boxing with a Wii. :0) But I am not skinny like a stick. :0) I have never been, and have never looked like an athlete. I am just ordinary and plain. :0) And by the way, I eat whenever I like, even after midnight. I am a cat person, can never be early to bed, which is not a healthy habit. They say you would look much younger if you could go to bed just after 10pm. I think it is quite true. No wonder my face is full of lines and wrinkles. :0)

Also being very careful what you drink, fruit juices, cordials, soft drinks are all out, Alcohol is really dangerous to serious weight loss also. As Riversong says energy in/energy out. There is no big secret at all, just a hard slog if you are seriously overweight.

The atkins diet is a sure fire way to lose weight very quickly.

It is the only diet I can be bothered to do.

A week of just protein, then adding vegies and fruit.

Works every time.

Twas The Month After Christmas
Twas the month after Christmas and all through the house
Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.

The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I'd taste.
All the holiday parties had gone to my waist.

When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber).

I'd remember the marvelous meals I'd prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,

The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
And the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please."

As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt
And prepared once again to do battle with dirt---

I said to myself, as I only can
"You can't spend a winter disguised as a man!"

So--away with the last of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip

Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
Till all the additional ounces have vanished.

I won't have a cookie--not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.

I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie,
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.

I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore---
But isn't that what January is for?

Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet!

About 7 years ago,I lost about 2 stone by only consuming the following: vegemite toast / sandwiches on white bread, apples and cups of tea (no alcohol). I also chewed chewing gum which prob. helped. (Have been told that the saliva produced by the gum fools the digestive system into thinking you are full.) Occasionally had a roast, but absolutely no deserts/sweets.
It was at a special time in my life when the diet suited me, but I don't think I could do it now, due to its extreme nature.
