Is there more to 'Summer Love'?

Summerlove.jpg

Warmer climates and higher temperatures are said to elevate the mood and heighten happiness, whilst the colder seasons are notoriously known to deplete these blissful feelings. Tales of romance and romantic holiday settings; typically have a summer feel or backdrop. Snow holidays and ski trips are rarely associated with romance and elation. You're more likely to find colder, snowier settings as the backdrop for a student holiday or a somber film.

So, the question is - does the weather affect your mood or have we been conditioned to believe this? Does hot weather promote those 'loving feelings' and does the colder weather reduce them? Would you opt for a romantic getaway in the snow? Surely the body warmth and snuggles would uncover some romance? When you think of the snow, do you think - fun trip with friends or - loved-up trip with a significant other?

i think everyone should enjoy a little winter romance at some point in life but it is over romanticized - especially the skiing. Cuddling on the lift and taking long strolls in a winter wonderland just isn't as good if you've never really been to the snow. Why? because most of the time you'll be thinking about the cold, freaking out about how on earth your going to get off the lift and no offence but looking good in winter gear isn't natural. winter does get points though for kissing when its snowing and being insides (like dreamer said). Nevertheless, it is proven by psychologist/ scientists that seasonal change does effect ones mood, so we may as well make the most of it anyway.

I find the only good thing about winter from a point of love is you spend more time indoors and in cosy lounge settings. Summer definately helps if you want to take ur girl out for outdoor activities like exploring parks, horse-riding etc. etc.

Major bummer! And the thought of waking up in a coffin fearing the daylight and with puncture marks on my neck is soooo appealing....

I saw it, but I chose to ignore it because istj54, like the majority of the population, has assumed that everyone likes warm, sunny days. Some of us don't. I would emigrate to Transylvania if I spoke Romanian. I've so far been turned down in my attempts to move to the UK and instead have to settle for taking frequent holidays to Europe and ski trips to Canada. How awful.

I think you would enjoy Switzerland .. I lived there for 8 years and hated it as I'm not a lover of cold. Far too long a winter and too short a summer for my liking. I'm a warm weather outdoors person!
Besides you could indulge in all the wonderfull Cheese, Chocolate, fine dining and luxury watches etc to your heart's content :-) (My profile is closed while I'm seeing someone)

Posted by: aquamanda56 at November 4, 2008 12:51 PM That appeals more to me than the idea of having to go out into the cold to get a truckload of timer for the fire (been there did not like it at all)

Summer sun probably does heighten the mood........for most of us, growing up summer was the season of holidays at the beach and in our teenage years that also meant a holiday crush. The thought of a tropical beach and the sun going down....ah...yes I've been there ;)

Summer Love ~ Sung by Sherbet in the '70s

Summer time is ideal for star gazing and generally enjoying the great outdoors to a much greater extent. But I do love Winter and rain and thunderstorms. The crack of lightning and then the illumination for a moment. Now that's exciting!

Grey days just don't do it for me. I love living here in Canberra as we get the 4 seasons and we also get a lot of sunshine during the winter. Beautiful big blues sunny skies. I'd have to say though the end of summer and autumn are my most favourite times of the year, the days bask in a golden glow.
Grey days even if it is not cold can bring the mood down a little.
As for romance?...well, that depends on the person not the weather....the right person can make even the coldest dullest day glow with warmth ;)

Rainhail...there is already a community...Transylvania, I believe it is called...and good news...you can fly there.

Sonny51, I agree with you about that. I love the cold and can tolerate much lower temperatures than most of my fellow Australians seem to be able to, and yes, I'm a night person. I go out of my way to avoid having to set an alarm and get out of bed early. I generally arise between 10:00 and 11:00, having retired at about midnight the night before. I'll get up early if I have to catch a plane, but that's about it.

In summer I only have energy if I remain in an air-conditioned environment. Makes it very hard for me to make a date at this time of year, especially living in Brisbane, because everyone seems to want to meet early for a coffee or breakfast. Breakfast!

There should be a community for those of us who aren't morning/summer people. Probably won't be many members though, but that would be a good thing from my point of view.

I guess the summer/winter moods are akin to being either a morning/night person. I wonder if those who love summer are also morning people ( and winter lover being night people)

My neighbour she loves the cold and she also gets her energy later in the day, towards the evening...mmmmm

enjoying the late evening sunsets in summer is great together, dining outside & bbq's .. there just seems to be more time for these things in summer.

Living up in the mountains as I do ...with a lit fire in the evenings for about six months of the year ...I still find being by the fire romantic but ...when I'm feeling down ...give me the ocean, warmth and sunshine!

Personally, I hate the heat and the sun, and after Christmas will be taking off to the UK for three or four months. It's my yearly ritual. Grey, rainy days always put me in a good mood.

when it gets cold the thoughts turn to chasing the sun :) the seasons definitely affect moods ( at least with me it does)...the thoughts of being outdoors puts a smile on my face, the sunshine is fabulous. Winter just says, look your doorts, it's cold out there ! Winter says drag out that heater.

warm weather definitely a mood enhancer :))
