Home Swappers Holiday!

homeswap.jpg

Cameron Diaz swapped with Kate Winslet in 'The Holiday'. Home exchange holidays are becoming more and more popular worldwide - where people swap homes, vehicles and even their beloved pets for a holiday break! Does free lodging with many of the comforts of home sound appealing to you? How would you like swapping your humble abode for a holiday destination such as a loft in New York? A traditional French Cottage? Or a local beach house on the Gold Coast?

Yes it all sounds sweet, but what if your hometown does not spring to a vacationer's mind when holidays are being planned? The downside is, your choice of destination won't always have available home swappers. Have you ever been on a home holiday exchange? What did you exchange? How did it go? Did you or would you feel comfortable exchanging your house with a stranger? Swap your home swapping stories!

British - absolutely - how bad was that film? But the concept of swapping overseas is pretty tremendous - however, I would really be concerned about the state my home might be in when I return! Trust!

Just google house-sitting or house-swapping, depending on what you want. I'm a member of a couple of house-sitting websites; expect to pay about $60 or so for a yearly membership fee. I've driven from Brisbane to Sydney for a house-sit but there was once a couple in Broome who wanted me to house-sit. I wasn't prepared to drive from Brisbane to Broome (in an XJR!!!), and they wouldn't let me drive their car either, so it fell through. If you stick to house-sitting or swapping in Australia, you'll find that most people own their own cars, so it's not a problem, but overseas with a house-swap, it will create extra insurance paperwork.

How do you get to housesit? Friend of mine swapped her house in the country for an apartment in Paris and all worked out well. Not sure about lending my car though with the distances in Australia.

That movie was one of the most stupid I've ever seen. Only watched it because Jude Law was in it, but I've never seen such cliched hyperbole and terrible acting.

Like blueyedblond I'm also a house-sitter for most of the year. Don't have a house to swap but even if I did, I don't think I could do it. I just don't trust other people yet as a house-sitter, people put their trust in me, and so they should.

I just don't like the idea of other people touching my stuff. On the other hand, I'm not interested in other people's stuff. I have no inclination to go through other people's drawers, wardrobes, or medicine cabinets but I'm guessing there are many people out there who are total sticky-beaks and couldn't resist.

I'll be up on the Fraser Coast next week for a long stint, and judging by what I've seen on RSVP so far, all the men are beer-gutted midgets, with not a Jude Law to be found. I'll settle for tall and slim.

Did do a house sit in South Australia a few years ago and als hadt mind & feed cat.
The Lady neglected to tell me her dear departed husband was still ghosting around .. but I got used to him after a night or 2 .. Cat used to object to him walking into the bedroom tho and would growl. hiss and spit.
Fixed it in the end tho by leaving open door to the next room which he'd slept in toward the end when he was dieing of cancer ... Cat went in there too and neither of them disturbed my sleep there after.

I don't swap my home but I do housesit most of the year. Have been doing it for almost 2 years and find it a good way to move around, see different things and meet different people. There are usually animals to mind, mostly dogs. Because I love gardening the home owner usually gets a mini makeover while I am there. Would never have met kurli if I wasn't in Brissy.
