Who'd have thunk it?

Posted by: woodnwine at December 20, 2007 9:30 AM

I would seriously like someone to speak ENGLISH not jargon or kitchy phrases. Say it as it is!

Posted by: summer15 at December 19, 2007 10:09 PM

G&C...Middleton, SA has good whale watching sometimes.

NF, even if some bloggers are "dysfunctional"...at least the ones posting are getting on better? And if any of us had to get a QC, well they should be worth their money hey. A person could represent themselves...

Bloggers: there has been a lot of funny postings today...made me laugh in public.

Posted by: slightsynchronicity at December 19, 2007 10:07 PM

Ha ha today122, I did not even think of that....roll on christmas I am getting slower and slower.

Posted by: dolphin46 at December 19, 2007 9:09 PM

and a dolphin wondering about whales?? sorry - couldn't help myself.

Posted by: today122 at December 19, 2007 9:05 PM

Neurotic fish - I'm laughin so hard at your list of meanings.....specially the jackass...keep 'em coming, they are about the only thing in this blog I understand!!!

Posted by: wishfulthinker03 at December 19, 2007 8:45 PM

slightsynchronicity - nah, I don't do podcasts. I was going to make a video showing how I make great first impressions on people at restaurants, hospitals, clubs, etc., but that plan went to the pits as a result of sheer laziness. I guess I'm losing interest in being the parody of a dating coach.

(Not sure whether this post will go through right away. Thought I'd give it another try, before resigning to my fate and calling it quits as a blogger flogger.)

Posted by: onlinedatingexpert at December 19, 2007 8:36 PM

I agree slightsynchro, podcasting sounds like something to do with whales to me.I just cant get the hang of it.

Posted by: dolphin46 at December 19, 2007 8:21 PM

Hey, I just realised that "podcast" totally describes my ex-husband...he's the biggest piece of sh-- I've ever come across...!!! Now I can't get arrested in public when I "greet" him...!!!

FrenchLetterMan

The way you do it is to raise your rates.

Make it $300 an hour just to be seen with you having coffee. Call it an appearance fee (for the cameras of course). I mean to say You’re Almost Famous (now out on DVD)

Like certain QueCees who bignote themselves by charging $5000 fee on brief for utmost trivia.

You can fool most of the people most of the time; might even con a few dysfunctionals off this site.

Posted by: neuroticfish at December 19, 2007 7:59 PM

Yes I wouldn't mind going whale watching and apprently relatively on my doorstep, Hervey Bay is only a 1/2 hour drive from me.

Posted by: mstingle at December 19, 2007 6:54 PM

I shouldn't have left WNW or today122 out they just added to me cracking up, behave yourself! lol.

Posted by: graceandcharm at December 19, 2007 5:18 PM

About 3 of us know what a podcast is...it would not load on my computer..but maybe Karina will be making them for us. Podcasts about
how to date more effectively?
Casting the net wider?
How to spot a player, like the new blogger said?
ODE can you make podcasts?
Could RSVP fix up the login problems maybe...?

Posted by: slightsynchronicity at December 19, 2007 5:16 PM

I would like to go whale watching...ooops wrong topic...

diamondblue2 - but do we actually get to see a podcast? after all this I'm still not sure just what it is. a lump of whale poo being cast for something or other? cast in bronze?
and - yep. maybe it's a tad too much xmas cheer, or maybe I'm so exhausted I'm hysterical, but it has been fun. maybe a bit of peace on earth and goodwill blah blah thrown in.
and now I'm on holidays YAY

Posted by: today122 at December 19, 2007 2:44 PM

Oh, and if that is what a podcast is, to get back to your question RSVP, yes, I would like to see one. Are we all going?

Posted by: diamondblue2 at December 19, 2007 2:22 PM

nueroticfish, today122 and especially jenjen:

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I've been laughing and crying at your wonderful wit. RSVP has been depressing me big time lately (I know--I'm not the only one!!! Hi all other depressees).

I thunk a podcast does have something to do with a pod of whales--I've heard it's a humungous piece of dry whale poo that the southern ocean whales have been saving up to ram the hell out of the Japanese whalers. Lets hope so. wOOt!

Merry Christmas--I hope you all stay this happy and funny forever.

Posted by: diamondblue2 at December 19, 2007 2:19 PM

it's ok - neither does he

Posted by: today122 at December 19, 2007 12:36 PM

Eroticfish - I have no idea woot I am doing or saying.

Posted by: woodnwine at December 19, 2007 12:17 PM

If you are going to use w00t on here WnW, it has to be appropriate usage.

Urban Dictionary entries appropriate to rsvp might well include:

No 29…a word commonly used to show positive emotion to a situation or experience, as in 'woot! I just got some ass!'

No 23. A term used to express joy in something or when you are a loser who plays games too much, as in 'Dese wimmin play games on rsvp, they r w00ts'

No 30. A word expressing great happiness, as in 'Oh my god! I just got laid! Woot!'

No 8. Mating call of the Wild American Jackass (self explanatory- every jackass would know what I mean)

No 2. As an acronym, can mean Waste of Our Time or Way Out of Topic (online forums) as in 'Jen: Eric is such a tool. Let's put packing peanuts in his desk. Michael: woot!'

No 44. An exclamatory which means happiness or excitement, as in 'Sugarbabe: I love you; Sucker4punishment: Woot!!!or whoo Hoo!!!'

And so on…

I suppose some of this could be edited out. Damn Y generation language !!!

Posted by: neuroticfish at December 19, 2007 9:41 AM

Woot were all of you people on last night? Just love your sense of humour Jenjen......!!

Posted by: graceandcharm at December 19, 2007 8:55 AM

Woot the?

Posted by: woodnwine at December 19, 2007 8:48 AM

net nerd. maybe that's the word for the year......
and what's happening in 2008 then, jenjen?
topical? Way Out Of Topic? and what does that mean for this sort of topic? is there a topic? and who would know?

Posted by: today122 at December 19, 2007 8:07 AM

Oh! and what was significant for you in 2002 jenjen57

Posted by: mstingle at December 19, 2007 5:52 AM

Should read 2008.........

Posted by: jenjen57 at December 18, 2007 11:47 PM

This could be podcast in digital audio, and its topical........

To be ' politically correct' ....

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit my best

low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral, celebration of the
winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable
traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular

persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to
practice religious or secular traditions at al...

uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted

necessarily greater than any other country or is the only "America"
in the western hemisphere,) and without regard to the race, creed,

Another new term from the urban dictionary is "facebook limbo".........
The electronic space between accepting and rejecting a facebook friendship. In facebook limbo, the user fails to accept or reject friend requests from would-be facebook friends from a variety of sources (e.g., random annoying classmates, despised work associates, ex-girlfriends, etc), because the user is uncertain if he or she will have to interact with these individuals in the future.

How about "RSVP limbo" - the electronic space between accepting and rejecting a kiss !!

Posted by: jenjen57 at December 18, 2007 10:50 PM

and of course - waste of our time. but that's life in the fast lane.

monkees - as in the boy band of the 60's? now THEY were cute

Posted by: today122 at December 18, 2007 10:44 PM

I know - the brain's absolutely buzzing, just too much too much.
maybe I'll join the actuarial society instead.

you get some classic quotes, jenjen.
keep em coming!
good night!

Posted by: today122 at December 18, 2007 10:43 PM

Before ALL of that, woot was a happy noise made by certain Monkees and Guinea Pigs when they are happy or content. Net nerds like to take credit for creating stuff that they only adopted.

Posted by: jenjen57 at December 18, 2007 10:43 PM

today122

More relevant here, can also mean........Waste Of Our Time or Way Out Of Topic !!

Posted by: jenjen57 at December 18, 2007 10:42 PM

Another one from the secret society of dictionary people........Woot originated as a hacker term for root (or administrative) access to a computer. However, with the term as coincides with the gamer term, "w00t".

"w00t" was originally an trunicated expression common among players of Dungeons and Dragons tabletop role-playing game for "Wow, loot!" Thus the term passed into the net-culture where it thrived in video game communities and lost its original meaning and is used simply as a term of excitement.

"I defeated the dark sorcerer! Woot!"

"woot! i r teh flagmastar!" (Think Tribes)

"Woot, I pwnzed this dude's boxen!'

Hmmmmmm

Posted by: jenjen57 at December 18, 2007 10:40 PM

Do you really want to today122 ? Might be too much excitement discussing all these fabulous new words like woot and podcast and blog !!

Posted by: jenjen57 at December 18, 2007 10:38 PM

secret society of dictionary people. how excitement would that be? how do you join that one?

Posted by: today122 at December 18, 2007 10:32 PM

yes, today122, I thought she said whoop whoop too. And the Dictionary people decide on word of the year......whoever they are....:)

Posted by: jenjen57 at December 18, 2007 10:28 PM

well then it MUST be right.
and didn't whatshername say WOOP WOOP? going deaf in my old age.
and how does anyone decide what is the word of the year??

Posted by: today122 at December 18, 2007 10:15 PM

Yep.....cannulator is right....W00T!... I saw this on sunrise this morning.

Posted by: misswendyxx at December 18, 2007 8:39 PM

Woot or more correctly W00T! is used by online gamers as a term of exclamation or jubilation. Like Whatshername did at the Polo in Pretty woman!

Posted by: thecannulator at December 18, 2007 8:28 PM

thecannulator

Woot ? Please explain.

Posted by: jenjen57 at December 18, 2007 8:13 PM

I thought word of the year was 'W00T'

as in W00T W00T!

Posted by: thecannulator at December 18, 2007 8:09 PM

Bit of trivia............
The term 'podcast' has been declared Word of the Year by the New Oxford American Dictionary.............

Posted by: jenjen57 at December 18, 2007 8:04 PM

I hadn't the faintest idea what this was about until going to the start of the thread to see the explanations.

twoeyes, I think you summed it up rather eloquently there and I'd say the same - (although being polite I'd probably say "no, but thank you for asking")

Posted by: malsie at December 18, 2007 7:26 PM

Well all the detail in the world, and l'm still none the wiser really...Guess l will just turn the ipod on and toon out....................K

Posted by: auntykaz at December 18, 2007 7:17 PM

Yes when I get a divorce, which is long over due, settlement was done ages ago just didn't round to the divorce bit yet, I suppose when you end up friends and there is no animosity there is not as much hurry, after all it is only a piece of paper and only need it if marrying someelse. However now there has been time, i feel like taking the next step which feel for me to naturally want to be legally single even though I have beeen single now for nearly 2 years again.

Posted by: mstingle at December 18, 2007 2:25 PM

I am with you wishfulthinker03 it is so nice to see that the post are a lot more positive than they have been. Maybe the Christmas spirit is creeping in to all yeah! "Have yourself a Merry little Christmas" y'all.

Posted by: mstingle at December 18, 2007 2:20 PM

Ok guys...laughing hysterically...Just where does this all fit into finding someone you don't mind the look of(you know, the package)...who doesn't mind the "look" of you too much...finding that you can actually tolerate being in each other's company...and falling into dysfunctional fairytale land together...

That catwalk idea is hilarious, Moo. I was wondering if something like the old "Perfect Match" series might be a bit of fun...???

Posted by: hiddencharms at December 18, 2007 12:53 PM

Great to see so many witty comments rather than the usual nasty ones....miserableoldcow what a picture that paints - strutting ya stuff on the catwalk for a podcast. Fish...I'm still laughing at yours....why make up new things to fight about - just rehash old ones over and over - saves brain space and you know the outcome already :) Ahh.....Christmas shopping here I come....

Posted by: wishfulthinker03 at December 18, 2007 10:55 AM

Couldn't we have an RSS feed thing that others could subscribe to and then know if we update our profiles as on those travel webjournals. ...but can not see the point. RSVP could have a series of dating advice online seminars which are later podcast.

I managed to upload a song to my profile, rejected due to copyright and that was difficult for me. Whether the pod thing would load, would be good to have Karina elaborate on the kind of things that could be podcast. Sounds a bit technical for me, but I will keep an eye on any innovations RSVP decides on. Profiles have audio, and video so does that mean we take download profiles and look and listen as we go? What a bewildering topic for some of us at this time of year and of course Season's Greetings to you Karina. Hope you elaborate more.

Posted by: slightsynchronicity at December 18, 2007 9:22 AM

Could always argue on who podcasts whom first.

“You kissed me first therefore you have to podcast me.”

“No. I might have kissed you but it shows you are a stingy tightwad of a b… if you don’t podcast me.”

The makings of a great relationship.

AS everybody knows, if you can’t fight from the outset, you don’t have a great relationship.

And as every good fighting couple know, if you have run out of things to fight about, invent a few. Like who’se going to podcast whom.

(ps probably not what was intended by the topic but who cares; bit like fighting, when you run out of things to say, make something up. And next time when I log on, I’ll try not to type in www.podcast.com.au).

Posted by: neuroticfish at December 18, 2007 7:37 AM

My god RSVP this blog topic is a pile of, um...podcast.

Posted by: jovial67 at December 18, 2007 6:45 AM

Oh we are a funny lot aren’t we

I looked it up in the dictionary

A podcast is a place where a pod of whales goes to do their dunny does.

After all everyone has to go sometime

If you don’t eat, you don’t podcast, and if you don’t podcast, you die

Posted by: neuroticfish at December 18, 2007 5:41 AM

I thought you'd hear a podcast rather than see it..........sorry just had to.

Posted by: thecannulator at December 18, 2007 12:06 AM

OK "pod"... a "pod" of whales..."cast" a fishing term...are we joining the japanese and fishing for whales...

or will we be strutting our stuff..ala.. sexy things on the catwalk...hi! my name's miserableoldcow and I like knitting, sherry, bingo and world peace....

Please don't podcast us RSVP...

Posted by: miserableoldcow at December 18, 2007 12:04 AM

Sorry people but they are currently operating on all of the RSVP staff, we will have to run things oursleves for a few days.............

What do you want for a new blog topic ? Perhaps "How they tortured the truth out of me" ?

Posted by: hermanhesse at December 17, 2007 10:46 PM

graceandcharm

A podcast is rich media, such as audio or video, distributed via RSS. Feeds can provide updates whenever there is new content. FeedBurner makes it easy to receive content updates in popular podcatchers. You can embed it with something called springwidget !!

Apparently :)

Wish the powers that be would explain this one a bit more. RSVP ??

Posted by: jenjen57 at December 17, 2007 10:33 PM

5 minute adds promoting RSVP's better world vision inbetween lobotomies!

Posted by: brilliantblue at December 17, 2007 10:31 PM

Hermanhesse...is that when we hold up the score cards so the surgeons know how much change is needed!
Makes so much sense now all these rating systems, just getting us prepared! Lol!

Posted by: jenjen57 at December 17, 2007 10:21 PM

So we will be able to watch as the surgeons perform frontal lobotomies etc etc on all those with failings of any kind :)

We will all end up the same...........

Posted by: hermanhesse at December 17, 2007 10:14 PM

...."exactly what" is what I meant to say...

Posted by: graceandcharm at December 17, 2007 10:06 PM

Jenjen57: I guess RSVP will have to enlighten us as to exactly want they want to broadcast.....but the mind does boggle !

Posted by: graceandcharm at December 17, 2007 10:03 PM

Here's a thought - perhaps people will be uploading their profiles to be podcasted (is that a word????) and we can just sit back and watch and listen....on the upside - it'd save the hideous amount of typos...the terrible grammar and those other things that fail to endear their owners to us....it'd be like a fashion parade on your screen....not sure how it'd go on the iPod....

Posted by: wishfulthinker03 at December 17, 2007 10:03 PM

Good TIC idea.........I am going to need all the help I can get with my NY resolution :) He he

Posted by: brilliantblue at December 17, 2007 9:44 PM

Definition of podcast:

A podcast is a collection of digital media files which is distributed over the Internet using syndication feeds for playback on portable media players and personal computers. The term, like "radio", can refer either to the content itself or to the method by which it is syndicated; the latter is also termed podcasting. The host or author of a podcast is often called a podcaster.

The term "podcast" is a portmanteau of the words "iPod" and "broadcast",[1] the Apple iPod being the brand of portable media player for which the first podcasting scripts were developed (see history of podcasting). These scripts allow podcasts to be automatically transferred to a mobile device after they are downloaded.

Though podcasters' web sites may also offer direct download or streaming of their content, a podcast is distinguished from other digital media formats by its ability to be syndicated, subscribed to, and downloaded automatically when new content is added, using an aggregator or feed reader capable of reading feed formats such as RSS or Atom.

Now we all know.

Posted by: graceandcharm at December 17, 2007 9:38 PM

Podcast of ? What is a podcast? Show me please.

Posted by: graceandcharm at December 17, 2007 8:34 PM

Podcast of what??? I'm struggling to think what on earth they could podcast! This is a "random" topic - maybe it'll make sense after a few Christmas drinks.... or not.

Posted by: wishfulthinker03 at December 17, 2007 8:17 PM

What... throw us all in a pod and cast us into space! Lol!

Posted by: brilliantblue at December 17, 2007 8:16 PM

Errrrr what's a podcast?.............K

Posted by: auntykaz at December 17, 2007 8:08 PM

And if that doesn’t make sense, could I just briefly query why I need a magnifying glass to read the numbers on a mobile these days; what was wrong with the old bricks- they made good weapons of choice.

Posted by: neuroticfish at December 17, 2007 7:59 PM

I’m annoyed that MySpace have made it a fraction more difficult to load MP3 players by converting their music files to Mpeg, and YouTube deleted the URLs forced ordinary common old garden variety Capt Kidds to take one extra step or 2 to thwart the gods. So what piece of mendacity are we going to confront here, and how do we corrupt it, pollute it or generally show off some inane tech savvy.

Do I actually sound like I know what I’m talking about? Wonders will never cease. Might even convince myself one day

Posted by: neuroticfish at December 17, 2007 7:44 PM

I know !!!! They are going to let us decide a "what" for the podcast !!!!! Ideas anyone ??

Posted by: jenjen57 at December 17, 2007 7:33 PM

Hmmmmmm..........maybe its a podcast of the powers that be brainstorming new blog topics :)

Posted by: jenjen57 at December 17, 2007 7:32 PM

exactly - a podcast of what?
did someone leave some wording out here?
or maybe this is just some sort of post modern / let's see if these people will write to anything - sort of thing?
at least this one is fast to get into - no comments to slow it down!

Posted by: today122 at December 17, 2007 6:32 PM

I was thinking the same thing....what would they be podcasting??? There isn't even an idea presented with the topic.

Posted by: misswendyxx at December 17, 2007 5:24 PM

A podcast of what?

Posted by: istj54 at December 17, 2007 5:13 PM

no

Posted by: twoeyes at December 17, 2007 4:41 PM
