mobile dating

RSVP has completely redesigned its mobile site, and we're really interested to hear what you think. http://www.rsvp.com.au/mobile/mobileDating.jsp

We've introduced a whole bunch of new features - and they're all designed to make it even easier for you to find love on the run!

We've improved registration and navigation and you can now view the whole of a member profile, including the photo gallery! We've added a full search feature so you can search for a non-smoking vegetarian red-head from 10kms away! And of course you can still send & receive kisses and unlimited emails at anytime and anywhere, all from your mobile phone.

Tell us what you think? Have you used the mobile site before and have you used it since the redesign? What do you think of the new look? What carrier are you on?

If you've not use RSVP Mobile before you can find out how to get RSVP on your mobile, or you can text RSVP (for the standard cost of an SMS) to 1999 6060.

Yuck.. "love on the run"? Is this a serious dating site or a pick-up bar?

Who comes up with these ideas?

From "Somelifeinmeyet".

.The mobile R.S.V.P. sounds great to me!

Yet again I think that I joined this site at just the right time, and will really get my money's worth , and extend my cirlcle of friends in no time. (And you even have social functions too, and now the voice snippets, and soon maybe new forms of greeting (for those like myself wanting to expand their social group with new male amd female friends, not necessarily looking for a date!)

WOW! IT all sounds very exciting!

I quite like it myself, however I only signed up for the bonus of being able to buy individual kisses, great idea! Other than that, I suppose it would be good for people who travel a lot and if they want to stay in touch with people over RSVP :)

If the mobile site stamps are cheaper, why not make the regular stamps cheaper and also have the 1 stamp option,I feel more people would be inclined to use the stamps and therefore giving customer satisfaction-ie repeat business!!Just something to think about RSVP!!SOS71

Ok, so now RSVP has teamed up with mobile providers to provide a service over data-plans allowing the desperate to rack up their phonebill, and then spend more money to contact people.

I honestly thought WAP was dead, everyone is moving to 3G or WiFi and providing cut-down pages over that network (which is much cheaper to access).

How about letting US decide how to pay for the data, and providing a site that works on all mobile devices, as it stands, this will not work on any of my mobile hardware as it all ties into WiFi networks.

I used to get updates on my mobile to say that someone had kissed me or sent me an email, the i had an epiphany

It was costing me 55 centsa per message. stopped that save about $10.00 per month. Not being a tightarse but frugile.

I have a question, what does the person doing the contacting or kissing, see of the profile they are kissing on??

I am asking as I have recieved a mobile contact, he sent me a kiss then a email. All contact is on his side as I did not even have him in my search parameters as he is 19 years younger than me.

At first I didn't know it was from a mobile, but he told me. Can the sender see your whole profile??? As this guy either 1 - could not see my whole profile or 2 - did not bother to read my profile. He has a girlfriend, wants a bit on the side, tells me he is good at massages, and does not want any meetings in public!! SOOO he is now blocked.

Does any one use this service to be able to answer my query??

There are other dating sites that also have phone chat lines and unfortunately they also cost a fortune for the guys to use. I dont see how this mobile dating thing will work. Any way when my 9 stamps that Ive got left are used, I wont be renewing, Im finding that alot of dating sites are charging to much to use them now.

Posted by: singlelady at August 16, 2007 10:42 PM

Hey Ed: let us know when you get on the mobile portal. I'm one of these take things slow people. I only ever try to correspond with one person at a time (wish this site allowed me to hide my profile in a way that still allowed the person I'd made contact with to view). Also, I take time out.. so my stamps tend to expire before they're used, and being able to buy them one at a time would be better for me.

How to make dating even MORE fast paced and techno... gee, give us a break - I'm still coming to terms with computer dating intruding into my spare time in my lounge room, let alone spreading 24/7 into my pocket!

Sorry - perhaps old school, but my vote would be to slow it all down from becoming such a disposable consumerist commodity (let's go get a chocolate bar - no, let's go get another date!) and make it more human again!

Posted by: Riversong1 at August 16, 2007 12:19 AM

Every second or third profile I click on I receive not their profile but an advert for RSVIP.
If I was one of those ladies and knew I was being used as bait I would not be very happy.
PS.
Dump half those set replies and add something real, I am sure you already have plenty of suggestions.

My question is, how much are we going to be charged for each time we use this service. Its not provided on all phone services, only optus, telstra and one other company. Therefore others like myself who are with vodafone would not be able to use this type of service.

If you send a messaget to a 1900 number they are usually more expensive then a normal text message cost.

[Ed: Good question about the charging, and something we've been talking about a lot within RSVP. Something you may not know is that you can buy individual stamps on the mobile site, and they're cheaper, so that part actually costs less. The cost of using the mobile site is the data rate charge from your carrier, which if you have a capped plan such as Optus' all-you-can-eat $5/month, then it's $5 for ALL mobile browsing, including RSVP. We are also on 3 and Vodafone, just not on the Vodafone mobile portal yet]

My first time in here & yes the reply choices are bad, so bad, that a person might become a RSViP person, clever!!

Posted by: roseroyce at August 14, 2007 7:36 PM

Doesn't look like this one is a winner.

Let's just get some sensitive and compassionate Kiss Replies (Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! - Sorry I forgot that just about everyone on these blogs has already asked for that - Silly Me!!).

Posted by: Fefa63 at August 14, 2007 6:10 PM

While you're at it see if you can't introduce a little fairness into who you ping for breaches of the rules. EVERY time I'm browsing I see infringements yet when I do the same - "your profile has been suspended bla bla bla"- I'm just glad I haven't wasted any money on overpriced stamps.

Posted by: obifoxkenobi at August 14, 2007 4:38 PM

I think 'cheesy' is the best word to sum up kiss reponse lines.
Of course, the more you pay the less cheese you have to tolerate.

Posted by: MorphtheCat at August 14, 2007 11:27 AM

I used the mobile service daily since April this year. I like getting an sms telling me a kiss has come in or there's an email..... yipee! I prefer the old mobile version. This new one is clumsy and often goes to the wrong area. Today I clicked on "search" but it went to "My Mail".

There are more choices in the search in the new version but I often use the internet when searching because it's so much quicker.

Also I don't understand "cupid matches" - they do not match my "ideal partner" in regards height, smoking etc.eg. "Saltator" has been selected for me today and he does not match my ideal partner.......

It is very disappointing that when you make contact with someone who responds saying that they are interested and are waiting for your email, so you send an email and then they never reply. It is unfair to encourage someone to spend the money to make the contact if you are not intending to respond. This action should be discouraged more strongly for the sake of everyone.

Posted by: MsM3 at August 13, 2007 8:57 PM

yes, the kiss replies really are pathetic. Do you think anyone in management even reads these comments?? i dont think so. I have only just returned to RSVP after a few months away, sad to see they havent made alot of changes in this area. THESE ARE REAL PEOPLE WITH REAL FEELINGS... or is it just the $$$$$$$$$ they see? take care of your customers and potential customers and GIVE US SOME NEW KISSES PLEASE!!!

Posted by: celticfiremaiden at August 12, 2007 10:27 PM

Alex, love the new mobile interface, have found it quite useful as only jsut got back on rsvp around Thursday last week...

"RSVP Ombudsman" does have something of a point about the limited kiss reply options though.

What I am wondering, is has anyone actually made a polite, sensible request (maybe even including their 10-20 suggestions for 'upgraded' KISS REPLY options) ?... or are they just resorting to being cynical whingers from the outset?

the ironic thing is, that with some well thought out replies, rsvp's revenues probably WOULD be greater anyway due to increased usage by members who are more sensitive to receipt of some of the current reply options...

just a thought though ;-)

Posted by: tripod78 at August 12, 2007 9:49 PM

Here's some more valid kiss reply options -

Are you joking?
Since when Is the new slim obese?
Isnt that your Cousin In the pic?
You sure look botoxed for 28

Posted by: Notlikely at August 12, 2007 12:27 PM

Ditto RO and VDu! It would be nice to see the site providing the users with what they want. More kiss reply options is unanimous i think.

Posted by: lipstick princess at August 12, 2007 9:11 AM

RSVP Ombudsman you're so funny! And spot on.
I'm with Vodafone prepaid and like to keep my costs down.
I have a Nokia that can send pix to email addresses but I think it would cost too much to attempt Web browsing on it.
I can't use Vodafone prepaid to enter all those SMS competitions.
Because I'm 57 and don't get many kisses from men of a suitable age I think phone alerts would just signal another disappointing message from a married pervert or a younger guy who thinks I'm desperate enough to link up with him.
Doesn't seem worth it to me.
PS - I think RSVP should give free stamps to over 50s. After all we're not the main marketing target for your site.

Posted by: funlovertoo at August 12, 2007 9:04 AM

I'm trying to add a photo .. yet can't find a way though.

Posted by: sevensevens at August 11, 2007 10:47 PM

Can't imagine I'd be using mobile dating...too hard to read that little screen...and some of the photos are dodgy enough on the "big" screen! The only good feature is being able to buy stamps one at at time via the mobile site...but still, that'd not hook me - I'm not that desperate that I need to pull out my mobile...I can wait until I can actually read what it is I am looking at!!!

Posted by: wishfulthinker03 at August 11, 2007 7:58 PM

Hear, hear RSVP Ombudsman! You have no idea how much I wish you were real, but I think you'd be run off your feet with complaints. I doubt we'll ever see any improvement to these limited and insensitive kiss replies as there is no money to be made by doing so.

Posted by: VictoriaDownunder at August 11, 2007 7:33 PM

Hey RSVP - I'm sure I speak for everyone here when I say I couldn't give a stuff about your latest attempt to gouge your customers. Do us all a favour and focus on the simplest, yet most effective thing you can do to improve things around here: revising the current Kiss Reply options to something more realistic and appropriate. I mean, c'mon, how many lines of computer code need to be written? Like, 10? 20? That's 10 minutes work for heavens sake.

Posted by: RSVP Ombudsman at August 11, 2007 5:14 PM

nah.... its not for me sorry.
