At the moment, I'd most likely send either the Smashing Pumpkins' song 'Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness', or Apocalyptica's 'Farewell'. Both are instrumental, both have melancholic undertones, but both also have the suggestion of light and hope. But then again, at the moment I'm feeling a bit fragile. So I could also send Pearl Jam's song 'Wishlist' or even the song 'Laid' by James (that one gives me a laugh).
Nobody has sent me a song.

Hairspray... You gotta see the movie and get the soundtrack.. I did.. and it made me feel great. Not always a light hearted movie.. has a bit of comment on certain things... and damn John Travolta was funny!!!

If you feel angry, sing a song, cheer up, don't hold bad thoughts in your heart. Enjoy your blogging everyone, bye for now
P.S. BTW, wwff8 is busy living happily ever after at the moment so good vibes and much happiness to her.

lol.. i did say '1 brain cell' suzie, not none...
but you know im just kidding...sorta kinda...
Wouldn't it be nice to write a song for someone? And be able to sing it to them. Wouldn't it also be nice to have someone to want to do that for? Lighten up everyone, try and have some fun.

As an observer and no longer a participator I say bring back the romance. If you like or heaven forbid, love someone - let them know it! Go for it - life is short. Stop playing aroung people, take a chance, sing a song, recite a poem, send flowers, text the one you fancy. If they ignore you or are too sceptical to understand then they probably aren't the one.
Fall in love!!!!!!

For all those who think it's a jungle out there -
Hearts that are broken and love that's untrue
These go with learning the game
When you love her but she doesn't love you
You're only learning the game
When she says that you're the only one she'll ever love
Then you find that you are not the one she's thinking of
Feeling so sad çause you're always alone
That's when you're learning the game
Feeling so sad çause you're all alone and blue
You're only learning the game

heymgirl George Michael has a fabulous voice - strong with good range, l myself like freedom, easy to listen to and sing along to, an upbeat kind of song that you don't have to think to much about just enjoy.
My personal favorite song is Pink Ffloyd's Wish You Were Here. The first time l heard it l think l was about 13 and it seemed to go on forever........

Who knows how long I've loved you
You know I love you still
Will I wait a lonely lifetime
If you want me to I will
..........
Love you for ever and for ever
Love you with all my heart
Love you when ever we're together
Love you when we're apart
And when at last I find you
Your song will fill the air
Sing it loud so I can hear you
Make it easy to be near you
For the things you do endear you to me
Ah you know I will.............

Hi wwff8 (hope to God I got that right!)... no stress re the typo. I rather like it! Hyemgirl is just as good as, if not better than, heymgirl!
Woodnwine.. see your point re (most) classical music not having lyrics. Although there are some beautiful choral arrangements of pop songs. One that springs to mind is of Billy Joel's 'And so it goes'. Voices only, no instruments at all. A different kind of depth entirely. Not necessarily better, just different.
To name a pop song, I'd have to say George Michael's version of 'The first time ever I saw your face' is really lovely. I actually like it better than the original (gasp, heresy!)
Have a good weekend all.. happy dating, if that's what you're up to!

This is quite unorthodox I know, but this is a message for RSVP name "MagicalSpell"..I read your profile about a week ago and thought it was fantastic, but once my profile was set up I went back to send you a kiss and your profile was no longer there or was hidden..which I realise may mean you have found someone, but if not, I was hoping you might read this and check out my profile - MrsTennant :)..

It was more the way it pronounces, rather than the way I spelt it, sorry again. (giggle, giggle)
Woodnwine, thank you for the big smile, they are always welcome and reciprocated. You definitely wouldn't want to hear me. Baritone? At least that would be in tune, right? I don't think so, I make the dog howl, she thinks I'm calling to her wolf cousins.......
I just realised my son has the music to "Don't wanna miss a thing", might have to persuade him to have that as his next project. Now that, I could really murder!
I like this blog, it's light and fluffy, a welcome relief to society's pressures.

I'm avid music lover... I prefer to listen music than watching TV. It gives my spirit lifted up being alone most of the time. I tuned to volume high (lucky my neighbours are nice), dancing RnB or to listen classic song - flashback memories ha!....or.. I love to sing in Karaoke (my voice not bad) from classic to new song artist...Its my foremost kind of entertaining friends - Karaoke, Beer/Wine and BBQ. (nice)...Loved to received from RSVP'ers, it does makes your smile somehow.....By the way i got one from nice guy (rsvp members)...song of Julio Iglesia. ( romantic love long ) and thanks to him.

the weird thing is that l do ballroom, latin and street latin dancing and some of the music we dance to is the music of my younger days when mum and dad ruled the solid state stereo in the lounge.
You can't beat Moon River to do a Modern Waltz to and the Latin music l am listening to now is years old but holds the Tango well (when l remember the tricky steps). You can even cha cha to some of Elvis Presley's songs once you get the beat.
Music gets the hips a wigglin, the toes a tappin and the vocal cords a stretchin all good for the soul

Hi hyemgirl
For me personally, I guess it's the lyrics that complete the connection in a song. I do like some classical, but I prefer a tune with words so I can hear them. I need it spelt out for me, guess the subtleties of classical are mainly lost on me. Theatre I find different as the story is there but listening on the radio, it has to have lyrics otherwise it's just elevator music. No disrespect intended to all those wonderfully, clever composers. I admire the genius of it but it just doesn't embed.
My son plays piano and he is just learning "It's a Beautiful World" I just swoon while he plays. He must think, woman are weird!
I just had an epiphany! Oh my god, maybe it's all the Mum's faults why men can't figure out women!!!!!!
"I see trees of green, red roses too.........." you guy's are so lucky this thing is completely silent. ::)))

Hi all. Correct me if I'm wrong, but no-one seems to have included any classical music! Interesting...
Posted by: heymgirl at August 16, 2007 2:19 PM
Oh you guys, just stop you are dragging things to the front that have been buried in the recesses for a long time. Woodnwine, the White Album is my favourite Beatles album, mind you a bit of a toss up with Abbey Road. I have most including the studio stuff.....
SetaphSuzie, I downloaded Bread from bigpond onto my MP3 so I can get a good dose of depression on tap, whenever I want.
Aunty Kaz, Englebert!!! I still have him on CD!!! Now your not allowed to laugh, but whenever I'm vacuuming Tom Jones, goes on full belt!! With these Hands, oh my god, talk about passion! Fall in Love is such a good one to warble to, terribly of course. I remember my Mum dancing around the kitchen to Tom and watching him get knickers thrown at him on TV. Still admire the power in that voice.
Another album I absolutely love is Frampton Comes Alive. Truly fantastic!!!
Thanks for the wonderful trip down memory lane. I love these blogs still, there are so many wonderful people out there.
Take care everyone...

Though now l love the Engelbert song Quando Quando Quando cos one of my girlfriends plays it everytime l am there and he didn't have a half bad sound afterall.
Dad also played a lot of Glen Miller records which were real music and every time l hear little brown jug or in the mood l always think of him..

SeraphSuzie and Auntykaz, glad you appreciate Aerosmith, as you put it "sex on a stick", have to remember that one, sums it up really well! Ronan Keating, well what can I say, definitely the irish thing happening.
Whenever I get a kiss from an Irish guy, I just hope he's got some other stuff happening apart from their gratuitiously, wicked sense of humour. Unfortunately I can never seem to tick the other boxes, but the sense of humour just about makes up for it. I love Marian Keyes as an author. Watermelon made me laugh out loud.
Oops those are books, right, a little bit off the subject. Just to keep "Big Brother" happy better make a musical reference.
I know their old, but for consistently romantic lyrics, Bread is hard to go past. They also good music to slit your wrists to. On that wonderfully cheerful note............
cheers

Hey wwff88.. I got the joke!! he he..
And thanks for the compliment...I am glad you did put fingers to the keyboard! And its ok about getting blamed.. on these blogs I am use to copping it! hehe ;-)
My daughter has got me hooked on Avril Lavigne's song Girlfriend... and I just looooooooove Amy Winehouse's Rehab song. Not that any of those songs are any indication of what kind of person I am .. hehe but I just like em anyway!!
I agree wwff8 about Don't wanna miss a thing.. my other so favourite love song is a Ronan Keating song... When you say nothing at all...I know its a schmaltzy song but I love it... also love Ronan Keating.. I think its the IRish thing .. 'swoon at his voice'. On a more modern note.. great love song.. is Damien Leiths song 22 steps... very sweet!! :-)
Posted by: SeraphSuzie at August 10, 2007 3:59 PM
SeraphSuzie, Isn't it just the best song, it almost makes you want to have a reason to use it!!!
Your straight? Oh damn, there I go, back on the singles circuit again. (that was a joke, just to clarify my poor attempt at humour).
I've checked out your profile too, and I love PINK!!! I liked you instantly from your blogs and profile. You are one of the ones that inspired me so much, to actually put fingers to keyboard and have a little voice on this thing.
So all you people who don't like my blogs, blame her!!!
This is about songs, right? One of the most romantic, beautiful songs ever (in only my humble opinion of course) would have to be "Don't wanna miss a thing" by Aerosmith. If a guy played me that, all over red rover!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers

Nope, not the same song, otmgr, but that's a good one too. Anyway, success, it's Traffic who sang it, I found the lyrics on google after much dabbling, and a 10 second audio snippet which was enough to remind me how it went. Great music, and probably wouldn't be a bad choice for RSVP.
Lyrics following:
I'm looking for a girl who has no face
She has no name, or number
And so I search within this lonely place
Knowing that I won't find her
Well, I can't stop this feeling deep in inside me
Ruling my mind
I feel no sound
Don't know where I'm bound
The scenery is all the same to me
Nothing has changed or faded
I'm a part of it, some part of me
Painted cool green, and shaded
So, trying to find myself must be the only way
To feel free
Definitely 60's/70's words, I know, but beautiful all the same.
Hi offthemerrygoround (nearly as many letters as the quick brown fox.....)
I'll have a listen to that version and see if it's the same. Providing the original is still filed accurately in the memory bank, of course! Thanks for the help, I'll let you know how I go either via the blog or an email.

I did find the Nick Drake CD, there is only one song I like on the CD, "Day is Done"....the rest seem quite dreary to me, I think that's why I had hidden it in the first place...
Posted by: TrumansCat at August 8, 2007 10:36 AM
I don't know if it's been on RSVP song list, but I thought of one that could be quite a popular selection. "You and your hand" by Pink.
I'm sure there are occassions when it would give the right message. Fortunately haven't had that situation myself yet, but give it time.........
Oh I'm sounding very cynical, not really, just thought it would be a good choice for those deserving of it.
Great blog, anything about music has got to be good.

No face, No name, No number. There was a version of this done by a band called Modern Talking, which MAY (and I stress MAY) have been the B-side to a track called Brother Louie. It's possible to download this track, or I can e-mail it, but it'll cost you a stamp.

This is really presumptuous of me, but I need to know.
Some years ago, when I was a teenager, (just before the Mayflower landed in USA) I had a 45rpm record which, as a flip side, had the song "No face, no name, no number". I cannot find out who sang it, I would hazard a guess it was either The Who or The Small Faces. Can anyone help? Even Google can't help me, and he's like Marjorie Trash-heap!

woodnwine... I do in fact have a Nick Drake CD somewhere. You have prompted me to pull it out & have another listen.... if I can find it.
Posted by: TrumansCat at August 4, 2007 4:46 PM
I am extremely disappointed at the paucity of country and western songs.
My favourite is Sharnee Fenwick's "How About Never"
"I'd really like to see you,
If you've just got the time....
and the refrain
"How about never,
Is never good for you
I'd really like to see you
But I'm busy all the time..."
etc
Let's get real. It is a 2007 release. Stop getting bogged down in 70s and 80s stuff

Hi wwff8
I enjoyed reading your comments. I'm also a huge EC fan and have so much of his music, particularly the old stuff but the concert was just so impersonal that it was dissapointing.

Listening to Neil Diamond while i type this. Now HE can sing. My favorite has to be "I am I said".

Hi Woodnwine
Didn't see EC live but have been a huge fan for a long time, so now don't feel so bad about missing him. I went caravaning last year through the middle of WA (hence photo's of big trucks on my profile) and one of my fondest memories was of listening EC Unplugged in the wilderness, under a million stars around a camp fire with a red. I hope I have alot more of those....

Hi there everyone
I am enjoying the blogging so much and it's obvious who the main ones are. I've just had a peek at some of your profiles, mainly just to put a face to a name. Music what can I say, it envokes mood, can cheer or depress you, inspire and make you fall in love. Yes, a well chosen song is definitely a maker, rather than a breaker. When I separated from my husband I had to literally drive around in silence, everything they played on the radio was about me!!! I never realised how many love songs there are, if it wasn't about the love I'd lost, it was about how I'd wanted it to be. Truly a tragic time. Way past that now and dance around kitchen with dog or child, whoever is within reach, even cat gets a spin now and again, but she doth complain. Before she starts spitting hairballs, I have to go from rock to ballad. (mind you she's really getting the hang of the jive :] ) One of the best concerts I went to was Queen in Auckland at Mt Smart Stadium, squashed in metres from the stage and managed to survive the frenzy when Freddie threw the bra he was wearing into crowd, during "I want to Break Free". Also on exiting with 40000 people how someone started bleating sheep style (we were in NZ remember) and the whole crowd joined in, apart from the odd rebel dog. I saw Neil Young in Perth and would happily have sat and listened to him Jam for another hour. Another great writer with crap, but loveable, voice. Yes, music is a wonderful phenomenom and rarely does something touch the heart like the right words to the right melody. I know, can't help it, hopeless romantic in action.
Cheers

also like kd lang especially when she sang with Tony Bennett, now that man can sing!! I liked her version of Hallelujah, thought she did great justice to it. Dumb me Colorblind wasn't on August and everything after, still a top CD though.
Still listen to Linda Ronstadt now and then powerful voice especially when singing Blue Bayou.
Posted by: auntykaz at August 1, 2007 10:39 PM
Did anyone see EC when he was out here? Pretty boring presentation of some excellent songs by a great guitar player, song writer and singer I thought. The acoustic part was definitely the best though. Like anything in life I guess, presentation has so much to do with it.

Bob Dylan unfortunately couldn't sing but boy could he write a song! Try listening to his songs performed by someone else. Shane Mac Gowan from the Pogues was terrible to look at and always so drunk the band eventually kicked him out but he was a great song writer too.
Try Nick Drake - what a tunesmith. Agree with your choices though, Jeff singing Hallelujah live is pure magic.

first record ever bought....The Partridge Family Album. First Concert ever attended...David Cassidy at the G ..with my mum he was sooooooo hot!! Last CD bought..3rd copy of August and everything after by Counting Crows, love the song Colorblind.
Last Concert attended..U2 with my 18 and 20 year old kids. Now that was weird!!Embarrassed the @$^&*# out of my son with my dancing around, but l had fun. So many in between, Powderfinger, Paul Mc Cartney, The Eagles, Coldplay, Pink Flloyd, Jeff Buckley, Bruce,Bryan Adams, Paul Kelly, John Williamson to name a few. Even like Justin Timberlake (the shame).

Offthemerrygoround, misty for me… yep, you are right. I think everything is a refection – our music, our experiences, our thoughts, our words… our whole back-story that’s shaped our being.
I’ve had enough “good dating experience”; would be nice to have a like-minded companion to walk with a while on the journey from here. Maybe I’ll change the song to: “somewhere, over the rainbow” ;)

Paul Kelly is another. An amazingly compassionate man...
Luka Bloom.

I think our music and our experiences are often a very good reflection of how we became who we are.
Those of us born in the late 50's and early 60's seem to relate best because of shared experiences, and music is often a very good microcosm (hope I spelled that correctly) which we can use as a guide to overall compatibility.
Mind you, I've had very good dating experiences occasionally, with people whose musical tastes are much more "champagne" than mine.
Just an aside for anyone who is still reading this blog for the original purpose of sending a song, (which personally seems an utter waste of time and money) surely the most appropriate track for this environment would be Abba's Take a chance on me.

Oh Funtimesplus, DETESTED is a strong word to use for the personal connotations of a song! Better luck next time :)
Posted by: Riversong1 at July 19, 2007 8:35 PM
I once mentioned to a lady in an early email that I thought that Gilbert O'Sullivan's Alone Again, Naturally was probably the saddest song ever written (listen to the lyrics, people!) She emailed back that she thought he was pathetic and that she detested the song. DETESTED? Struth, it was only a conversation kicker F F sake! I don't seem to get around to talking to her so much these days.
NEXT...!

Wow, just stumbled into this nostalgic zone, people unabashedly revelling in great memories of music and song!
Yep, Offthemerrygoround, I first saw Billy Thorpe at Sunbury (sweet 15 and under strict supervision), AC/DC at Southside Six (sweet 17 and illegally entered), and Lobby LLoyd at the Q Club (still sweet 18), long, LONG ago :) OMG TishB - that's MORE than a third of a century ago! :(
But yep also Trumanscat, I DID see James Reyne (and Paul Kelly) just a couple of months ago at Apollo Bay, as well as Jo Camilliri, and Spectrum recently, and Phil Manning at St Andrews just last Saturday. Some of the oldies are still alive and kicking around the place!!
(But I must add, there's also some great new young talent around too.)
If I was to send someone a song? I dunno, maybe "Most people I know, think that I'm CRAZY..." (loud) :)
Posted by: Riversong1 at July 18, 2007 1:47 AM
Let me get this straight. People stay here forever, the response rates for kisses is pathetic (mine is maybe 3% - and having read quite a few of these blogs, it seems to be a big problem here) and I am supposed to pay to send somebody a song?
Silliest idea I have ever seen on a dating site.

Ronin,
Have 1 suggestion for a cliched song not to send. "I just called to say i loved you" by Stevie Wonder. Not so much because its a cliche i just really hate that song

Sending a song seems like it could be a risky venture. Everybody has a favourite genre, and everybody has a genre (or genres) they hate. In my case, my favourite genre is the one that most females loathe with a passion (metal). Sending a song that I like would be like shooting myself in the foot, while guessing what the intended recipient of the song would like is impossible. I suspect that people will tend to take a punt on something middle-of-the-road that is innoffensive and slightly romantic, if a bit cheezy. I forsee Barry White, Barry Manilo, Abba, and few other cliches getting a good workout...
That said, I would be over the moon if I were sent a song by Slipknot (Vermillion Pt.2?) or something similar...
Anyone got any suggestions for songs that are just too cliched to use? Maybe we can create a 'blacklist' of songs that are just too awful?

Oh Abba..what memories..I was 10 at the time, my nephew was just about to be born. I remember spending the afternoon with the girl next door, and we pretended to be Abba, I was Frida and we jetted all around the world, singing badly ..hehe. ;-)

Lipstick Princess...
I loved Australian Crawl or more importantly, James Reyne, what a spunk!

Daryl747 ..... looking back at the Devo concert they really were cutting edge.
Used large video screens as a backdrop.... at that age we just thought it was weird & too different...

Saw Mental as Anything live last year and they were older but not bored.. a fun night was had by all.. and there were even kids there young enough to be mine ... and the band did a great job mingling with the crowd after the event .. a good evening was had by one and all
Posted by: shybutperky at July 8, 2007 4:43 PM
Well I saw the Mentals earlier this year....I thought they woz goood.
Loved that they were the same albeit older, but so am I.
Ahhhhhh ABBA Trumans Cat, i got the arrival album for my 9th birthday still remember it like yesterday. used to sing into my hairbrush.
hell, i still sing into my hairbrush.
talking of oldies, rod stewart was a blast, (enthusiasm incredible for his age). you gotta admit he has sex appeal.
Aussie Crawl was also one of the best.

How cool is this thread!!!
I proudly admit to having a luv for Devo ,used to roller skate to em' Wayyy back then, lol.
Worst Gig...
Sadly, the last 2 times i saw Mental as Anything they seemed bored & apart from Greedy there wasn't much spark, i understand that everyone has the odd 'off nite', but it was sad to see such fun mob just dish out the standards without enjoying it.
Cheers

Rick Wakeman, Jethro Tull, DONOVAN...I'm sure there were more...ah the memories, and all with twin babies in tow! They were the days. Probably would be considered child abuse these days. Sheesh, was it really over a third of a century ago??
Posted by: TishB at July 7, 2007 6:12 PM
OMG the memories certain songs bring back. My first rollerskating party (Devo playing), first song i ever took note of....Dont like Mondays- Boomtown Rats. I never knew what that was about untill recently but loved the song, first kiss... lmao it was Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen. Still my all time fave. Good kiss too.
Now i feel old, just worked out how long ago it was...sob...

I admit to have been an ABBA fan in their day... even went to the airport to wave them off, I think I was all of 8 years old at the time.

I remember the Bay City Rollers, I was in Primary School... my first band was Sherbet.. my grandmother bought me the album for christmas it cost her $5. Oh Daryl was so hot!! And still is ...hehe
Next big thing for me was Adam Ant.
Oh the posters...he was so hot..back then...

Patience, some day soon, when I have stamps, I promise to write to you and hopefully discuss our respective musical experiences. As a kid from the western suburbs of Melbourne, Channel 10 was too far to travel, Nunnawading being a bus and a change of train from home, but I'd love to tell you my Alice cooper story, or my Bay City Rollers story, but especially my Leif Garrett story which culminates in him stepping from a balcony, away from the adoring crowd, looking at some hanger-on and uttering the immortal words.....that'll sell a few more records.
Trumans Cat. You are a DEVO fan? I think I'm in love. Will write soon

I saw The Radiators and the lead singer (cannot for the life of me remember his name) was drunk and stoned. It pretty bad.
Other than that never been to a bad concert!!
Green Day was the best!! I wish I had moshed! ;-)

What about Australian Crawl, Hoodoo Gurus, The Police, David Bowie, Hunters & Collectors, SANTANA (the best)!?!
OMG And Devo!
Can't believe I owned up to THAT one!

I think sending a song is a nice gesture but it doesn't beat sharing the music.
Kicking back in a mellow mood after a nice meal, coffee.... conversation halted to take in the melodies, the lyrics.... comfortable just to listen.
I tend towards mellow sounds for kicking back.... beautiful vocals, moving & sweet melodies (I would say eclectic but I suspect I would get into trouble here if not already).
I love discovering musicians & vocalists that tend away from the mainstream.
Loreena McKennitt, Deva Premal, Luka Bloom, Angelique Kidjo, The Audrey's, Zulya.... music that moves me & creates an emotive response.
A couple years ago I was debating if I could afford the full weekend pass to Womad when I won a double weekend pass....that was blissful... :~)

offthemerrygoround...there used to be a show on tv every Saturday morning called Uptight.(as in the song Baby, everything is alright, Uptight, outta sight..I doubt if anyone ever did know what that actually meant..) It was after the early Bandstand but before Countdown era..It was hosted by Ross D Wylie....
Anyway teenagers in Melbourne were allowed to go along to the Channel 0 studio's(now 10) and hang around the canteen waiting for their idols to appear to talk to them and get autographs and who knows what...there was no such thing as security or bouncers back then. My parents( of course) would not hear of me going,..having several years before stopped my sister from attending front row seats at that ridiculous Beatles concert...but one Saturday morning I sneaked off to my friend Penelope's place where her(groovy) mother was actually willing to drop us and pick us up.
Who should be there on that Saturday but The Masters Apprentices...and the love god Glenn Wheatley...he seemed so old(probably 19...yep, definitely a mature aged man) I can still remember what he wore...black leather pants black boots and a white shirt....I lined up with all the others and got his autograph...could not speak and blushed and blushed (as though he had actually noticed me)and nearly fainted......but how cool was I at school on Monday?
Looking back now the mist of love has cleared a bit and I can see the look of boredom on his face while he signed the bits of paper and records.....
Of course my parents found out, but it was several incidents later before they enrolled me in the convent .....the last straw being the day I went to the city(again with that bad influence Penelope) by train, when I was told not to,without a chaperone without a cardigan or a hanky and bought "gasp" incense AND love beads.......

I somehow skipped Rose Tattoo, though I was always a fan, but saw Chisel on their last stand tour. One of the very very good shows. Wish I'd seen The Masters Apprentices in their heyday, or the Easybeats....a little before my time. But here's a thought for a blog topic. The WORST show you ever saw. (Headline acts only, cos we've all seen some shocking unknown bands) I'll start the ball rolling without giving too much detail. Dire Straits, by a LONG LONG way.

the ex used to "stomp" with Billy Thorpe and the aztecs (him being an old brisbane boy) at the O'Connor boat house .. used to be somewhere in the vicinity of now north quay.. and they used to drag their mg's down to the coast .. all wayyyy before my time of course but i loved hearing the stories
Posted by: shybutperky at July 2, 2007 9:12 PM
Hey there 'Offda",
was a little to young to catch most of them champions in their hey-day, but cant count the time i saw the mighty Rose Tattoo...as you mentioned all our heros seem to be passing, was lucky enough to meet up with Pete Wells - ( Slide guitar 4 da Tatt's) a fair few times over the years, he was a hell'va fella & it was sad to lose him to the bastard cancer...
Dragon, Chiesl, Jimmy & the Boys & who could ever forget the Angels..pound for Pound, i think as a Live act, no one could match em'...
Ah sweet memory
Cheers

Now here's an interesting bunch of characters, Very amusing I must say.
Simply enough, If I was to want to send a song (none as yet) I would just like the ability to send one from my PC. If there was a charge associated, then so be it.
Posted by: MagicMuppetMan at July 2, 2007 2:50 PM
Kevin Borich. Now there's a memory! I can't have been older than 13 when I first saw Kevin Borich Express. The same era as Lobby Lloyd (who sadly is also no longer with us) and the Coloured balls. Billy Thorpe, (is there a theme here????) and the Aztecs. That was only a couple of years before I saw AC/DC for the only time. A local unheard of pub band who hadn't even THOUGHT about a record. That isn't really true of course, because Bon had just become their lead singer but those of us who were there will never forget the almost naive infancy of Australian rock.
Thank you for bringing back the memories Daryl. I'd almost forgotten.....

LOVE all genres of music; even play it. Though there is good and not so good in every area. I can even find something that will give me a buzz in this day and age though sometimes a bit of a strain :).
Have someone send me a song? -- WOW -- that would really make my day. Send one myself? -- haven't found anyone worth it so far to even think of it. Though maybe favourite band UB40's tune 'Cheerio, Cheerio Baby' could come in handy. Or Jim Reeves 'I love you because', but that is being way to premature. Guess I'm showing my age here but at 57 consider I'm still a young chick. It's all in the mind guys........
Love reading the blogs. Spend more time looking at this than anything else. Often very entertaining; some clever writers out there.

Thank you oh Shy and Perky one, for the thoughts, but I really don't consider myself either wrinkled, or prunish. A little self depracation however is good for the soul, and I'm not above a good giggle at myself.
To anyone who wishes it, the password is only a "kiss" away, but I have my reasons for not displaying the photo. (I know, that's another blog topic, but one I decided not to contribute to for very personal reasons.)
If anyone wants to play a song for me, just make it loud.
Posted by: offthemerrygoround at June 29, 2007 8:13 AM
omg ... offthemerrygoround.. wrinkled old prune, ok no picture posted so I'm not sure about the wrinkled.. but old prune??? I'm fast approaching your age and there is no way in the world I consider myself old let alone a prune.
As to the songs I agree, let the song find itself for that particular memory, some songs do evoke wonderful memories others pensive ones, but I can't see how sending a song to someone you haven't really met works, I would rather share a drink with the person next to me listening to that music.
Daryl747 .. 41 and an ol fart .. please, you're only as old as you're inability to sway to the piece of music currently playing .. sigh (btw.. not your rsvp name.. or you've disappeared cause I can't find you, I like to see who my fellow bloggers are occasionally, put a face to the comment so to speak)
Posted by: shybutperky at June 28, 2007 11:52 PM
Hey Daryl ...love your blog and I have to agree and have been thinking about how I have been influenced by many different types of music. I remember listening to Johnny Mathis when young as my Mum loved him, Santana and Deep Purple because of my much older brothers and myself well I started off loving Elvis and never lost the love of his music. Now I just mix in other stuff..and basically listen to the music that suits my mood. At the moment it's Blink 182 up loud on the way to work to get me going in the morning. But then driving through stressful Sydney traffic I enjoy listening to chanting monks. And soon I want to buy Michael Buble's newest. Always loved Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin ...and love Chris Isaak. Wow I could go on and on.... but I won't cause I can hear the groans from here.
I would love for someone to send me a song... I think it would be a challenge for them to pick the one that suits me..or I would like... ;-)
I have to say I like this blog the best at the moment, a bit over the ins and outs of what to write on my profile, how I should behave on a first date, will he call me, should I call him.. it is doing my head in!!! aagghhhhh! hehe
Posted by: SeraphSuzie at June 28, 2007 10:08 PM
This wrinkled old prune always associates particular songs with particular people. For example, I can't hear "Three times a lady" by The Commodores without wistfully thinking of a girl I dated in 1977. Or the theme from "Annie", or "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the waves. People, places, and often happier times flood back. So I'd be very loathe to send a song. Would much rather meet someone, let the song find itself, then think of her whenever I hear it.
Posted by: offthemerrygoround at June 28, 2007 9:06 PM
music....mmm....would only send a song to someone really special...most people would not know good music if it slapped them...crap like robbie williams...excuse me just being ill....
main stream shit...oooohhhhh

Loved his tips of the odd $1.00... back then it was like a weeks pay for a paperboy, cried like a baby when he passed in 1974.........................................
RIP J'oK!!..............................................................................................
Dad would rave about Elvis, & i was lucky enough to watch my Grandfather & his brothers get liqured up & sing Dean Martin at family BBQ's,
My 'older brudders' would laugh ,slap my new AbbA 45 aside, & enforce my tender ears to the classic tunes...Ozzy, way before the MTV garbage. when He kicked it with Back Sabbath, Led Zepp & the coolest of Cool....Alice Cooper!!!, Ah the sweet tears of bllod from my ears, LoL...
moving along my own path ,i've discovered such gem's as ....
Johnny Cash, Warren Zevon, Rose Tattoo, Jan Preston- a Aussie songbird- check her out, Iggy Pop,the Anti-Nowhere League, KISS, Colin Hey, Fog-hat, T.I.S.M, Junior Brown, Southern Culture on the Skids...awesome!!!
& many, many more bands ....
I would suggest that given any time of your life, the right tune could wake the dead, make the blind walk & make the lame see..

music, it has the words for every moment.

didnt mean to upset u ed....but thats MY feedback.
this topic has had the least amount of input so i suspect that maybe im not the only one who took it as a plug cos u have had a general music blog before (which DID get a lot of comments from bloggers).

Yes, I'm bored too...how many blogs can a person read in a day??
Music!! Wow what an impression that'd make if someone actually took the time to listen to what the lyrics were talking about - so much easier to "borrow" someone else's words some times than reinvent the wheel yourself.
I'd love to receive a song, I'm almost tempted to send one too - however might not be appropriate at this stage.
I think a few more "choices" should be made available though, I kinda like the "slightly older" songs - you remember the kind, whereby you can HEAR what they are saying and understand the simplicity of the words.....ahhh those were the days. Although in saying that Aerosmith's "Dont want to miss a thing" isn't too bad. It's amazing how we associate music with particular "events" in one's life. I still can't listen to the Bangle's "Eternal Flame" without becoming a simpering wreck....ahhh those were the days...I think...But onward and upward I say....bring on the music and boys....start sending it - stops you having to think too hard in those initial awkward moments :)
Posted by: Wishfulthinker03 at June 25, 2007 11:03 AM
Aaaaah, music, the universal language. If you ever get to my profile, you'll see the passion I have for music. I was in Swizerland playing Jim Croce and the audience sung the lyrics back in English. Same thing when I was in France playing TOTO. It's just amazing. Especially when some people you talk to after the gig can't speak English exept for lyrics!!!
I've never sent a song, nor have I recieved one, but it would mean a lot if someone did send a song to me. If I was to send one, I'd probably pick Floyd (Wish You Were Here), Billy (Just The Way You Are), Croce (Time In A Bottle), or something I wrote myself. Or Aerosmith (What It Takes) but that song's not really appropriate unless you're talking about an ex.
If only I had someone to treat as well as I treat my guitars and the various pianos I have played... But I guess no one likes musos because of the "tarred with the same brush" effect. Shame, that. We're not all drug-screwed alco's. I've got a wild side, sure, but I'm not like a, for example, Layne Staley. Which means I'm not drinking and drugging myself into oblivion. Damn shame, that. Janice Joplin, Keith Moon, Jimi, Russel Javours, Brian Jones, even innocent victims like Patsy Cline, Jim Croce, The Big Bopper, John Lennon, John Denver, the list is endless. It's those people that left an enduring legacy on who we are, how we grew up, how we process our memories, everything.
Without music, there would be no love; without love there would be no music.
Posted by: pianomeister01 at June 24, 2007 9:11 PM
Hey Tish thanks for the compliment and I have to say I love the song Your Gorgeous!! Wow that would be an awesome song to have on the list.
Hehe what about an ACDC classic...You Shook me all night long?...after a good nights chatting? or maybe something else ;-)
Posted by: SeraphSuzie at June 24, 2007 2:48 PM
think the reason why this blog has not been so popular is cos its not abt music per se, its abt rsvp trying to flog their "send a song" service.....
[Ed: Thanks geminkj, we are not trying to flog the service, but we are looking for feedback on the service, what with this being the "user feedback" blog!]

My mission for tonight is to add a blog to each topic...is anyone else as bored as I am??
No, I've never sent a song. No, I've never received a song.
Maybe RSVP could add "You're gorgeous" by the Baby Birds to the list. Then maybe you could sift through Likely Lads to whom I could send it? I don't have time to do it myself, I have blogs to write!
PS Love the pink hair Suzie!

Gimme Head by the Radiators always reminds me of school dances and we never thought the teachers would let it be played. Oh and Footloose the music from the movie takes me back to when I went with a group of friends to see it,...first time I was allowed to go out!!
Lots of 80's music reminds me of when I was in the Navy... and going out with friends to nite clubs in Sydney.
Great blog Daryl... I love Elivs by the way ;-) hehe

Hi Suz,
Saw your lonely call & though i'd add my 2 bit's....
I cant speak for anyone but me...But i reckon you'r right on the money, for mine.. Music is Life...
Must admit that there are some songs that do things to me..some i cant hear cause of association's to other times, albeit-Bad-
Cant stand my wedding song now we've parted Oh, could take you back to a unhappy event...
I cant stand Crocodile Rock by Elton, cause that was playing when i got taken out by a drunk driver...
Should i ever hear the 'La LALALAR' part while i'm at the wheel, i gotta pull over, lol..
But When i hear certain songs...Aw Cool...dont they just snap ya back to a certain time of a moment...
'Money for Nothing'-Dire Straits...well that played the Night my team won the Footy premiership, i won the Best & Fairest & all of Benny's nightclub- Terrigal cheered like a Cold Chisel Concert & i cant remember so many beers ever landing on one table at one time since..
Sounds a little 'Al Bundy' i know..
But Damn, those were great days..
was born i the late 60's, so the 70 /80's hold a special place for me..
like any ancient Dinosaur, i feel there aint been a decent song/Singer/band in da past 15 years, but, then i laugh as i recall my Dear ol' Dad tellin me that this KISS mob, with the girly make-up & nancy boy yelling " is nothin but a one-off fad & none of their stuff will sell, Dad cracked me up, 15 or so years later as he recalled not only telling me this, But also hearing the same from his PaPa 'bout the current Idol ELVIS....
The wheel always turns..
Cheers
Daryl

Hmm it would seem that no one else has sent a song. I may even get this blog all to myself and end up arguing with myself. Well at least I know who would win ;-)
I could probably come up with a song for each person I have chatted to on RSVP...what about the rest of you?? Theres a challenge for the bloggers out there!
Posted by: SeraphSuzie at June 21, 2007 10:59 PM
I have sent two songs.. I love music and think that sometimes they can convey feelings in words that we mere mortals cannot. Music is great for any mood or emotion. However I think there should be more choices and should be changed constantly. I would love to be sent a song, especially from a person who really got who I am and knew my music tastes.
Posted by: SeraphSuzie at June 20, 2007 1:23 PM
Hey .. I was sent a song! Only problem, can't download it .. I think because I have a Mac and no Explorer. Ah well .. the thought still counts (although it was a Backstreet Boys tune? um not sure about that)
**[CS] Unfortunately the send a song is not compatible with Mac computers.
